What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Having paid off my mortgage and my children having left school I wanted to save out of my salary. I set up a free-standing AVC alongside my NHS pension with James' advice. Now, 4 years later, having taken Retire and return from NHS I wanted to make best use of the AVC funds to help to move house.

How has James Relph helped you?

He found a good home for my money!

I think that's a question for the longer term - in the short term the money was moved very efficiently and I was able to take the cash I wanted for the house move.

I can't think of anything.

James responded to our initial contact very promptly and arranged a time to meet with us at our home. He took the time to listen and understand what we were after and explain to us how things might work, and his firm's client agreement, should we wish to proceed. He also came back very quickly with some quotes for us. We are very pleased so far, and are just taking some time to think about how we move things forward.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Nearing retirement I was was given advice from a financial advisor through the Company I worked for, but after looking at their charges I was quite alarmed. This prompted me to look elsewhere for sound advice at a more reasonable rate. We were recommended James Relph and went from there.

How has James Relph helped you?

James discussed at great length all the options available to me and I decided on a drawdown plan that suited my needs. He then set everything up for me keeping me fully informed as it progressed. I found that James explained everything in language that I understood.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The fees charged to me by James Relph were very competitive and I feel he saved me a considerable amount of outlay. Yes, the pension seems to be producing the income I expected and was explained to me.

What could they have done better?

I found James to be very thorough, answering all my questions and concerns which gave me confidence to progress with the plan. I do not feel he could have done any more.

It's crucial to establish a trusting relationship with your adviser and we feel we've achieved that with James. He explained things in a way we could understand and he put us at ease, happy to answer all our questions. He's been very flexible in arranging visits and has always answered our queries promptly. We soon felt that he understood our needs and he has made lots of good suggestions. He's been polite, patient, thorough and gave us time and space to make our decisions. We considered three advisers before making our choice and we are very pleased with our decision. Now we just have to see how the recommended investments work out!

There was one report that left us a bit confused, but James soon clarified that on his next visit.

James has helped me go through my finances and sorted me out with a pension and explained everything very clearly for me. I have known Mr James Ralph for approx 6 years and he is always extremely helpful. If you ask him a question James will go to a lot of effort to provide me with the correct answer if he doesn't already know it. James is a very friendly and approachable chap and very genuine.

James is sympathetic to the needs of his clients and is able to draw on many years within several different types of financial institutions. We had previously used a large financial/accountancy firm but they started to aggresively push solutions that suited them rather than the customer. James listems very carefully to our needs and we feel he tailors his advise to our needs. James always answers queries very thoroughly at our face-to-face meetings. We had used James previously when he worked for a large firm and knew he would look after our needs when he became self employed.

We always mention to James if we have suggestions and he is quite open about incorporating these or explaining the reasons for not doing this.

James listened and understood very quickly our requirements. Although the main advise received was concerning pensions, he made sure he understood our full financial position before making any recommendations. James and his team are excellent at communication and kept us informed along the process. When one of the pension companies became a little mixed up with the paperwork, James' team stepped in and helped with every part of the issue to a very quick resolution.

At the moment I can not think of any place where James requires to change or improve on his current practices.
