Looking to join a final salary and three defined contribution plans together as intended due to health to retire at 55. I worked for a bank but they would not do pension transfers from final salary pension scheme.
How has Allan Cruse helped you?
Discussed the retirement options. Initially completed a fact find on my situation and looked at what my future needs would be short and long term. He then took details of my pensions and explained what would happen next. Providers were contacted and then a report put together on the advantages and disadvantages on each scheme so I was then able to make an informed choice for what was best for me in my circumstances. This has been over a three year period and now i have just stopped working the final scheme has just been moved across so now all in one place. This makes it easier for me and more importantly if something were to happen to me my partner and children future will be secure.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes. It’s a two way conversation I do have experience in investments but not to the level on pension transfers/drawdown to fully understand the potential pitfalls as I was just over lifetime allowance. The key to me was to have money to enjoy now but also protect my and family’s future.
What could they have done better?
In my case nothing, he was very open and said the outcome maybe he would not be able to transfer the pensions. He kept me up to date and when I had questions always came back quickly with a reply or if more technical would indicate that he would go and find out the answer and come back to me which he did.

Allan is friendly and open, ready to discuss issues and suggest solutions. He has clearly spent time improving his own knowledge in response to questions about areas with which he had less familiarity. He has a pragmatic outlook and also brings in his colleagues when appropriate.
What could they have done better?
Allan's recommendations are fairly narrow in that they follow a particular set pattern. Whilst this is sound in providing reasonable and proven solutions, it would be good to demonstrate that other approaches have also been considered and why the chosen approach is considered the best. He also tends to undersell the service provided by him (as a part of an IFA partnership) so missing some of the justification for fees, particularly those fees that recur forever.

Allan Cruse listened to our requirements and our attitude to risk ,explained what our options could possible realise also at the same time pointing out that any investments could go down as well as up. Allan made us feel that our interests were his interests as well. The selection of funds recommended have proved very satisfactory and we would have no hesitation in taking Allan's advise in the future.
What could they have done better?
As our investment was not very great and the income from this investment has been more than satisfactory I do not see that Allan could have done any better for my wife and I.
