What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

After selling a rental property last year, the funds went into the bank temporarily and now it was time to invest them more profitably. When researching local IFAs on the internet, I read and compared reviews and kept coming back to Gavin and his wife at Kingsley Wealth Management.

How has Gavin Kingsley helped you?

Gavin came to my home twice, once to assess my situation, find out what I wanted to do, gauge the level of risk I was prepared to take and to offer investment advice and ideas. After some weeks of research and contacting ISA providers, he returned to give me a detailed breakdown of his proposed plan.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Gavin has set up a 5 year product that will not only grow, but provide a monthly amount to supplement my state pension. He has also tidied up my portfolio by amalgamating/transferring some existing ISAs that makes perfect sense. When I mentioned making a will, Gavin has recommended and made an introduction to a local solicitor.

What could they have done better?

I am very pleased with the service he has provided. He is very approachable, has a clarity of thought, listens well, is extremely efficient and I’m sure, makes good investments! The fees are reasonable and it is reassuring to know that he will check in annually to monitor the situation. Thoroughly recommend.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I used Gavin for my earlier mortgage and got a really good rate. He contacted me a few months ago, before my rate was due to change, to advise I make some changes in light of the predicted increases in interest rates and utilities etc.

I met Gavin last year when he helped with my mortgage. I contacted him earlier this year when I was on furlough and had more time on my hands. I had lots of pensions from working at different places over the years. To be honest I didnt really know what I had altogether. Over the years I have built up a nest egg and as I've recently turned 70 I thought I'd better start to look at how I could pass this down to my daughters, and if there was any way I could reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable.

How has Gavin Kingsley helped you?

Gavin met me at my home which I was grateful for as I dont get around as well as I used to. First he made a detailed list of my estate so he could calculate what tax would be due. He explained as my wife sadly passed away a few years ago and left everything to me that I would also be able to use her allowance which I wasnt aware of. Once this had been accounted for, he calculated that there would be no inheritance tax due. Gavin therefore simpy put me in touch with a solictor to ensure that I had a solid will in place and a power of attorney should anything happen to me.

I now have a will and a poer of attorney in place and feel better knowing that what money I have will be left to my girls.

What could they have done better?

I dont see how he could have done better. He was very professional, and was very open that he couldnt help me once he had determined that there was no tax due. He passed me to an equally professional and friendly solicitor who arranged everything I needed.

The fixed rate was coming to an end on my current mortgage deal.

He met with with me and my wife and went through all our options. He also asked what our plans were for the future and how this may affect his reccoemndations. He then came back to us the next day with the best deal he could find, which saved us about £80 a month compared to the mortgage we were already on, and almost £150 a month on the one we would go onto once our cureent deal had ended.

I'm approaching recruitment and I wanted to know my options of generating an income from various pensions and investments.

How has Gavin Kingsley helped you?

As I live in Northern Ireland Gavin all the work was conducted via Skype and email. I found this extremely useful as at the moment I still work full time. Gavin created what he called a cash flow model showing a number of ways of structuring my income and went through the pros and cons of each. He also changed the investments within my pension.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Gavin said he was fixed fee and he was true to his word. I paid the exact fee that was shown on his website for the work done. I now know where my income is going to be coming from at different stages of my retirement. I also know that it is now more tax efficient. I now feel a lot less worried about my retirement.

What could they have done better?

My pension provider took a little while to send the information he required to Gavin. This isn't a criticism of Gavin, but it did add about a week to the whole process.

Sadly, my husband passed away earlier this year. This was very unexpected and so our we had not put our finances in order to deal with this. I did meet with my husband's financial adviser first, but she only seemed to be interested in the money.

Gavin was very sensitive to my situation and I instantly felt at ease. Instead of concentrating on the money he took the time to listen to what I wanted to do with it. He then advised me on the best way of achieving this. He arranged for my husbands pensions and investments to be transferred to my name, and transferred them all to one place so that they would be easier to manage. I also had a cash pay out from a life insurance policy and Gavin gave me advice on how best to invest it to create an income for the rest of my life. I also wanted to make sure that our children were taken care of should something happen to me, so Gavin also arranged for a Will to be drawn up for me, and a new life insurance policy.

He also discussed how much risk we were comfortable with, which was quite tricky as my wife is very cautious, whilst I'm a bit of a gambler. Being self employed I'd left it quite late to organise a pension. I had absolutely no idea of where to start or what options were available etc., so I contacted Gavin.

Gavin went through a number of different types of pension with me, and after discussing what i actually needed, he happily recommended i go for the simplest and cheapest option. We also discussed risk, and Gavin educated me on how investments work, and he then suggested an investment to go in the pension. I wanted to transfer my pension "pot" from an RBS final salary scheme to my own SIPP.

But most extraordinarily, he made a recommendation which was exactly what I wanted - but also meant I paid him over £2,000 less than I was prepared to! When I asked him why he had done that he said "it was the right thing to do". I was pretty stunned to be honest - so he scores 100% on the "ethical standards" scoreboard.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Absolutely - I should also say thanks to Towers Willis Watson who administer the RBS scheme, and A J Bell, who are now holding my SIPP, as they were both very efficient (as was Gavin). An experience that started out looking quite daunting turned out very well, went very quickly and smoothly thanks to all three of those parties.

What could they have done better?

Having to meet him personally was a bit of a drag, just in terms of the travel although he came half way (Swindon) to do that - I would have been happy to do it over Skype - but I understand why that is a "rule". Not much else I can think of really given the above.
