Simon was recommened to us and we are glad he was. From our first contact with the office the customer service was all we could have asked for. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an equity release adviser?

We started a year ago and looked at various options available to us, we had assets abroad, we gave our objectives to Simon, who met them all. In the middle of this interest rates exploded, we reviewed position, modified a little and moved on.. Equity release worked for us , it gave immediate cash relief,cleared old mortgage,and made our twilight years comfortable.; All our family were kept apraised at all times. We thank Simon and his team , the lawyers were a bit robotic, but efficient.

How has Simon Chalk helped you?

Simon helped evaluate the various options that were open to us. Looked at specific equity release with low cost initial payback. As land was available to pay back loan, Looked at inheritance tax aspects, althogh he is not an expert in this area. He guided us to watch should be looked at. prepared some spreadsheets which showed the accumulated interest cost of the loan. The valuation to our property and we had was less than what expected due to the current situation,however it’s worked in our favour, as as we were able to borrow what we required was less than the maximum. This means that the house net worth will be in a couple of years time where we expected it to be now.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes absolutely, it also made us rethink our whole financial personal strategy. It has also allowed us to think about developing our land rather than selling it.

What could they have done better?

From Simon not much , but from lawyers he recommended,although super efficient, I didn’t like the non personal touch.

We have no dependents who would really need an inheritance so decided to put the Equity in our house to use now for home improvements and a newer car. We had considered using companies that advertise in newspapers or on the television but preferred to discuss equity release face-to-face.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an equity release adviser?

i was considering taking out Equity Release, because I thought it was appropriate for my circumstances. However I had read negative press about Equity Release, so I thought it was vital that I look for advice that I could trust.

How has Simon Chalk helped you?

In the first instance I established that Simon was a reputable reliable and independent adviser. I then talked and listened to him to establish that this was the case. His experience of working on the Equity Release ethics group in particular encouraged me to have faith in him. Also, I have cancer at the moment, and our conversation about working with clients "in vulnerable circumstances" i found encouraging. While he never made a big issue of my health, he always worked around my day-to-day wellbeing. Simon first got to know me and my circumstances in depth, and then he gave me options that would work for me. While I made the decisions, he was willing to discuss aspects of the various options in detail. all of his verbal advice was backed by clear documentation.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. I have now entered into an Equity Release agreement that I am happy with and that I clearly understand. I am also fully aware of future options and choices.

What could they have done better?

I can't think of anything.

We needed/wanted a solution to some financial problems and after much deliberation decided that Equity Release would be the best option for us.

Simon was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind to us. No hard sell whatsoever. In fact he tried to dissuade us at first. Recommending we try to hang on as long as possible before going down the Equity Release route. However on a second visit we went into the depth of our problem and agreed to take us on.

My wife and I needed a large sum of money to help one of our sons with the purchase of a flat.

I was recommended to LaterLiving and they are great. Good advice to begin with followed by an in depth interview to check our requirements. This was done on Zone which was fine. Next came a proposal that we accepted. We instructed them to proceed and it all concluded quicker than we expected.

I had been Furloughed since April 2020 and then made redundant. My age has made it difficult to gain employment so I needed a way to complete on my existing mortgage. All other options had been explored and Equity Release was the only solution.

I was having an issue with an equity release mortgage going through via Nationwide, when I'd been passed Simon details, to gain a comparison in deals, to make sure I was taking the best option at the time.....Simon talked me through how various companies, come up with their deals, the background to how smoothly they can go through, which gave me a bigger over all picture. Simon was very down to earth taking all the relevant details and speaking to me without jargon, so as I could understand well. We worked out that, as we were very far down the line with the Nationwide offer, and would have to start again, with any new deal sorted via Simon, we would end up spending more in fees and interest on top. However, I would highly recommend Simon and his services to anyone who is searching for a good equity deal. (We also covered some matters, if my mother did happen to go into care). As we discussed, sometimes you go with the bigger company, as we have with Nationwide and it's not always the best service or deal. In the long run, it can pay to pay an expert for their advice and assistance through the process. (I wished I'd spoken to Simon before I started the equity release remortgage process with Nationwide in Sept 2020, as we are now 4.5 months in and still no agreement signed as of Feb 6th. I do believe now going with someone independant is a wise choice, as it takes all the chasing & issues away from yourself, and takes away any added stress).
