Initially we were looking to start a savings / investment plan in order to fund the purchase of investment property and my wife was looking for advice as to investing a small pension balance. We recently made the decision to move house, and Alex was the obvious choice to carry out the mortgage broking exercise and handle the mortgage application process.

Without Alex, I don't think we would have realised exactly how much we could borrow on our mortgage. We are now in a position where we have purchased (STC) an extremely nice property, the mortgage application has been approved and we are very comfortable as to it's affordability.

I knew I had several old company pensions from way back, but couldn't work out how to access them. I overheard my friend Alex say he was a financial advisor to someone else, and asked him if he worked on pensions. Since I already knew him from playing badminton with him for about a year, I figured I could trust him.

He helped me consolidate and recover most of my old pensions, and has been helping me invest the money from my successful business for the last few years.

Kinda! The investments under-performed recently due to the global pandemic and the crisis in Ukrane. But I don't blame Alex for that, obviously. In the couple of years prior to those things the investments were growing steadily, which was the outcome I was hoping for. Clearly if/when the current global problems get solved, I'm expecting they'll do better again. They haven't been a disaster either, just a few percent loss.

We had quite a bit of money in cash, and it wasn't doing anything for us. Interest rates on cash ISAs and other savings accounts were pretty pitiful, so we approached Alex to help us make more of our money, both in the short and long term. Also, since having our daughter, who has a genetic disability, Alex has helped with life insurance, Wills, and maximising our long term gains to fund ongoing care she may need as an adult.
