What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

To see if I could use a small pension due to come into payment to enable me to go part-time at work following a health scare. I also needed advice on preparing for retirement, which was due in 6 years.

How has Richard Martin helped you?

He looked at or pensions, our circumstances and what we hoped for, analysed it all and came up with a solution we would simply not have thought of. He was also able to adapt the plan quickly to a surprise change part-way through the process. He was calm and reassuring to talk to through the Covid dip last year and our investments have more than recovered since. We have now had our first annual review and feel we are in safe hands.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes and far more. I was surprised and delighted to be told I could retire 6 years earlier than I thought. By rearranging a variety of DB and DC pensions Richard has provided us with a comfortable retirement much sooner than we thought possible, which proved to be a godsend when the Covid crisis started not long after I retired.

What could they have done better?

Nothing that I can think of. Richard proved to be very professional and knowledgeable and he took the time to really understand our needs. Our lives have been transformed and we cannot thank him enough.

Myself and my wife were keen to find an accredited and trustworthy advisor to help us plan for our retirement on a 10 year horizon.

How has Richard Martin helped you?

Since engaging Richard he has advised on and personally led; the consolidation of several former employer pension schemes onto a single advised pension platform; the transfer of a final salary pension to an advised platform; the set up, migration and continued investment into ISA; the set up of a junior ISA for my son and; the set up of a LISA for my daughter. Richard has also guided us through a change of ownership of the platform provider. As a financially literate investor, with limited time and a moderate risk appetite, Richard has been the perfect advisor, he is patient and in no way pushy, he offers clear, well researched appropriate advice and uses analysis to support his consultations. Richard also recognises the need to reassure investors about the sustainability of the long term relationship between the investor and the advisor and is continually looking to develop his business model to support this. Whilst he clearly covers a lot of ground he always makes himself available and is quick to respond.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, our investments are growing at a faster pace than before the consolidation and are aligned to our preferred risk profile and the consolidation has made things much easier to manage. He is helping us build the financial literacy of our children for the longer term. His advice is not tied to a single platform so we have complete flexibility to move our investments and to choose from all the market products. His fees have been excellent value for money and, having undertaking extensive research prior to engaging him i am confident continue to represent very good value in a competitive market place. Finally and perhaps most importantly, he has built a strong bond of trust between us.

I’d been with an old financial advisor who In inherited from my grandfather. He was basically doing nothing to advise or help me achieve any returns on my investments or present new options.

How has Richard Martin helped you?

Martin took a total fresh look at my investment portfolio. He carefully asked me about my short and long term goals, what the funds would ultimately be used for and the level of risk I was happy to take. Developing a clear investment plan that would serve with predominantly over the long term (as was my requirement) but with some funds set aside that could be accessed quicker should anything arise. I really can’t recommend Richard enough. He knows his stuff, matches that with his understanding of your goals and develops a super clear plan on how to manage this. All explained in clear, jargon free language. He really is the best in the business.

Yes! The returns I was getting on my investments before moving, was, especially now looking back, shockingly poor. I’ve been super impressed not only by the performance of my investments but also the robustness of the mix of the investment portfolio Richard developed for me. face with trying to put all my different pension pots in one place I needed to use a specialist financial advisor as my pensions were defined benefit type. I looked around my local area for people who could help and Richard by far was the best rated out of all.

he helped me look at my finances in totality, maximising on my pension income and explaining the whole process so that it was easily understandable. It was a big decision to put my finances in another persons control but it was the best decision ever.

exactly the outcome I wanted so that all my pensions are amalgamated into a personal pension pot which I was in control of rather than previous employers. It also has given me control over my own investments and enabled me to bequeath them to any person I choose in the event of my death.

Just over a year ago my husband wanted advice on transferring a pension. Richard impressed us by finding out not only about our finances and commitments, but about our hopes for the future and our family life. He built up a clear picture of our lives together so he could give us the best advice for our personal situation. Over the course of our talks he brought up things we hadn't thought of. He explained everything in an easy to understand way and we have been happy with the outcome. I was faced with the daunting prospect of amalgamating all my pensions into one to simplify my pension when I am due to retire. I researched a lot of independent financial websites and advice websites for specialist pension transfer -Richard by far came out as the most trusted and after also speaking to a colleague in my workplace he also recommended Richard for the fantastic advice he had been given.

I wanted to switch from a company pension scheme into a private scheme before a change in Lifetime Allowance rules became a negative factor in my planning for early retirement . Richard was able to meet me and my wife at short notice and quickly understood our goals and suggested ways to achieve those after assessing our attitude to risk and a desire to maintain some access to ready money for the purchase of a house. Richard designed a plan for us that completely fitted our needs and took the time to explain to us what was being suggested , how it would work and how there would be regular review meetings to discuss whether all was working to plan or adjustments were needed. Richard also helped us with some tax planning which resulted in a tax refund ( that more than covered the cost of his advice and the pension company initial charges. We hadn’t even considered the tax angles and so his insight and assistance on the tax front was a fantastic bonus .

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Absolutely. With Richards guidance and support my wife and I have both transferred our company pensions and taken more control of our future by having private pensions and investments that have enabled us to buy a new house without the need for a mortgage. The funds that we have invested in have performed very nicely so far and Richard has helped us along the way with organising drawdowns for our monthly outgoings.

What could they have done better?

Nothing at all . From the outset Richard has been attentive , friendly and above all professional. He offers sound advice and makes sure that everything is understood before implementing any plans . Since the implementation we have had a couple of meetings to review how everything has gone and have scheduled the next meeting for early next year when Brexit matters might have an impact upon how our plans need to be changed . In addition to the meetings Richard has always been available to answer questions by e mail or telephone and so we have the comfort that there is ongoing support rather than have an adviser who simply moves on once the initial review and placement has taken place.

A company pension scheme which i wanted to change over to a private one.

I had already been to see a FA more local to me. After 3 months they told me that they could'nt help and to seek further advise. Looked at reviews and Mr Martin stood out. We arranged a meeting and straight away he made me feel comfortable and went through my paperwork etc. I had to pay for a new package from my pension company because the transfer value only lasts 3 months which Richard sorted out for me. He also said the value would almost certainly have gone up.

Yes when the CET came back the value had gone up far more than i could of dreamt of, which was partly due to Brexit. Richard then set up the paper work etc for the transfer.It did take several months until it's finally finished which is not the FA's fault it's the pension company who seem to take there time.

What could they have done better?

Nothing at all he was very profesional from start to finish. He made me feel at ease right from day 1. He explaned eveything in great detail, but in a way to someone like me who's not exactly clued up in these matters. As i said earlier i had already been to a different FA which did'nt have the right outcome, so i was very pessimistic before i met Richard. I did'nt need to worry thankfully.

I wanted to arrange flexible access to one of my pension plans and on investigation, I discovered that to do this, I had to transfer it to another plan. This couldn't be done without the help of a financial advisor.
