I am due to retire on the 31st December 2023 and needed advice regarding my defined benefit pension.
How has Liam Martin helped you?
It is extremely hard to find an advisor with the knowledge, expertise and qualifications to advise on a defined benefit pension. Luckily I was put in contact with Liam who has gone above and beyond the scope of advise I was initially looking for. Liam provided additional advice that has reduced my tax liabilities.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
The outcome has exceeded my expectations, Liam has provided me with sound financial advice that has allowed me to make the correct decisions when it comes to my pension. Liam also advised me on my redundancy package, this has reduced the amount of tax I was expecting to pay, far exceeding the cost of the advice. The level of communication from Liam has been exceptional.

I had an urgent need to raise significant funds as a result of legal action. My final salary pension was the only viable source and I required proper financial advice to be able to access it.

Liam provided focused extremely timely and pertinent advice as to what I needed to do, whilst being thoroughly responsible about making sure I was aware of everything I needed to understand.

The loss of final salary pension is not an outcome one would normally seek, but given my context, and thanks to Liam and his colleague Kerrie, I was able to access my funds as straightforwardly as possible, whilst being comfortable that every step of the way I was being appropriately supported and made aware of relevant financial issues.
What could they have done better?
I give Liam 5 Stars across the board because I honestly cannot think how he could have done anything better. For my part I felt I received five star treatment. AXG's processes did not really account for my circumstances, and this could be reviewed, but Liam made sure it was not an issue for me.

One company pension I had was mostly DC but partly DB, ie GMP ( Guaranteed Minimum Pension ). Transferring the DB element of the pension to my SIPP was problematic as the value was above £35k and many IFAs I spoke were not prepared to help.

After a short telephone call, Liam quickly put me at ease - he is friendly, down to earth and definitely knows his field of expertise. We touched on the pension transfer, where it sat in relation to my other pensions and wealth and he was fully confident that the transfer would be straight forward. I signed up for his transfer services which proved very easy where I was given excellent advice and guidance. He outlined the full process, expected timelines and gave a comprehensive report for the pension transfer.

Liam sent me forms for listing my assets and risk appetite. Very comprehensive forms to assess my circumstances. He even told me that upon analyzing these if he felt a transfer was not advisable then he would notify me and would not charge me anything - the matter would rest. The alternative would be that he would provide a positive report and leave the decision to transfer out to me indicating that he would not disagree if I did go ahead to transfer [meaning he did not see it as a grave risk if I did transfer out]. That was what singled out Liam from other advisors who merely said they would have to go through the whole process, charge me for the advice and even then there would still not be any guarantee that I would get a positive report.

Yes - Liam analyzed and deduced that a transfer out for myself was not unduly risky, leaving the final decision to myself. I went ahead with the transfer and Liam showed a balanced portfolio commensurate with my risk appetite which I have now invested in.

I required the transfer of a company pension to a private pension with a drawdown facility. As government guidelines dictate I had to seek and prove that I had taken advice from an Independent Financial Advisor before the Trustees of the company pension would agree to a transfer.
How has Liam Martin helped you?
I received recommendations for two IFA's who initially stated that they could assist but subsequently informed me that they could not complete the necessary work in the timescale needed. I made an enquiry via a 'search engine' and received a call from Liam Martin who offered a free consultation. On explaining my requirements he assured me that he would be able to assist me in the transfer of my pension.

The pension consolidations and release of tax free cash have now been completed successfully, which has allowed me to resolve issues relating to my divorce settlement satisfactorily, to make the most what could potentially have been a bad situation. I am very happy with the service which Liam has provided throughout, making himself available and taking the time required to explain things to me clearly and allowing me to make the best choices possible. This has allowed me to progress with the financial settlement for my divorce and retain my main defined benefit pension scheme, and I'm happy with the pension investment advise that I've been given.

The only issue is that it has taken a long time, which was not entirely Liam's fault, I initially started this transfer with another company, and after nearly six months of delays with them, it was transferred to Liam who has done his best, I was just frustrated as I had originally started this transfer last Christmas.
