What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an accountant?

We are non-resident and had submitted SA returns for 6 years. I was confused over double taxation rules and began to suspect I had been overpaying tax in the UK. My local tax adviser was unable to help and suggested I contact HMRC. I did so, but got little help or advice other than being referred to online guidance. A friend was having similar problems and their local tax adviser had given them Stephen's contact details.

How has Stephen Haggan helped you?

Stephen listened patiently to our concerns and identified a solution to the situation. He provided a breakdown of his charges before we agreed to proceed. He clearly listed the tax records and evidence he would need to work on our problem. Over the next few weeks, he guided us through the collection and presentation of a wide range of records in a variety of formats. He gave us regular progress reports and identified any items we still needed to find. This approach made a daunting task for us more manageable and we were relived when he told us he has everything he needed and brought our folders to our home for us to review and sign off. He has now submitted our folders to HMRC for their action.

Our SA records go back six years and most will have to be submitted manually to replace the electronic versions I had incorrectly submitted. Stephen clearly explained the current delays with HMRC and structured our expectations regarding timescales and possible outcomes. I was delighted to hear from HMRC today that my most recent return had been re-submitted electronically and that the tax I had paid had been refunded to me. The whole process will probably extend for up to 12 months, but Stephen has promptly submitted all the documentation required by HMRC, thus initiating the tax recovery process for us with immediate effect.

What could they have done better?

We are both delighted with the excellent service Stephen Haggan has provided for us. He swiftly identified what needed to be done to resolve our situation. He provided a clear breakdown of his fees before we signed-up with him. He has been very supportive throughout the information gathering process and provided us with regular updates. This enabled us to compile the necessary information in a short period. He compiled the information for us both and enabled us to review and sign everything before he returned to UK to submit it to HMRC for us. We could ask for nothing more.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an accountant?

The company I have recently started working for was incorporated last year and so the first set of accounts were due. The internal accounting hadn't been kept up to date (hence me being employed as an internal book keeper) and the accounts system they were using was new to me. I was required to complete the book keeping for the previous 12 months and to liaise with Stephen who would then prepare the annual accounts.

How has Stephen Haggan helped you?

Stephen walked me through, step by step, the best way to clear the enormous backlog of transactions. I wouldn't have known where to start if not and he was very patient while I was learning, and also very clear on what he was advising. Stephen helped me to use the system effectively as it was new to me and he always replied to any phone calls or emails extremely quickly. Throughout the process I had various questions for Stephen and he was extremely helpful in answering them to ensure the accounts preparation ran smoothly.

Yes, I have just completed the book keeping for the full year, a larger task than I realised when I first took it on! Stephen is now just finalising the statutory accounts. He uses an online portal to ask questions which is really efficient compared to numerous email threads.

I contacted Stephen to provide me with a quote for annual tax returns, formation of a ltd company and payroll services. I was having problems regarding the payroll system I was using. As I have minimal experience in the accounting field I needed assistance rectifying my account.

As the self-assessment deadline approached I realised I needed some advice and support with my first self-assessment since going self-employed. I was recommended Stephen by a fellow counsellor and I made contact with him a month or so before the self-assessment deadline.

How has Stephen Haggan helped you?

Stephen was helpful and friendly and, despite a tight deadline, calm and reassuring to me, which is what I was looking for. He explained the self-assessment process and I was able to put together my paperwork and submit everything to him before the deadline. I found the whole process much less daunting than expected and I will certainly keep using his services.

Yes, and more. Would not hesitate to recommend Peers & Ass. They are just amazing.! We have used them for many years, what I love most is the fact no matter what time you ask for advice etc they literally are always there! Even when being on holiday we have had replies, our accounts are in great working order and always on time. Ste himself is very methodical and never misses anything. I can vouch for the work ethic, service and price. After paying a poor accountant before using Ste Peers we ended up with a triple cost in the long run 'buy cheap buy twice' so I would always use Ste for all our personal tax, accounts etc. Thank you for your work Peers & Assoc. I needed an accountant when I moved to being self employed in 2013/2014. As a small business and someone who was entering into the world of self employment and didn't understand the detail of what I needed to do I turned to Stephen to management the accountancy services needed for my new business.

How has Stephen Haggan helped you?

Stephen helped me with everything I needed to start up simply explaining all the things I needed to do and all the bits he could do. He was non pushy and continues to help me with any day to day issues I have. The great service I received at the start has not changed over the 5 years I have been using his services.

I genuinely couldn't ask for a better service. If I have questions then I know I can contact Stephen and he will help. His turn around for replying to emails is really quick and pretty much always replies during hours most people would consider are "out of hours". As someone is not an expert in this area I feel Stephen has been perfect in terms of helping me understand what I need to do, answering any questions I have had throughout the process and offering services where required to take the pain out of things I don't have the time or expertise to do. He has also offered solutions to help reduce the admin process and burden to make the accountancy process as simple as possible. Having the support and help of Stephen to manage the accountancy element has been invaluable.

Not sure... there may be some services that Stephen could proactively offer me that I don't know about that I don't currently use? I can't really fault the service I do get though.
