Primarily approaching retirement and with a final earnings pension banked I needed to optimise my other pensions spread across 3 or 4 pots

Yes I was able to retire 2.5 years early with confidence. Felt my investments were banked in funds which were ethical and hopefully will provide the desired return , although this is never guaranteed.

What could they have done better?

Ideally we could have arrived at a solution earlier but this was down to the inaccurate information supplied by my pension provider. This was only resolved by contacting the head of Pensions at my former employer.

My previous advisor's company had closed down and my details were passed to Hoyle Independent Advisors. I was contacted by Matt who offered a free review of my pension. There was no pressure involved.

Matt helped me to realise that my pension fund was all with one company's products and therefore would not be covered by the Financial Services Guarantee. He undertook a review of my pension fund, my overall needs and my attitude to risk. He didn't hurry me to make a decision and was always willing to answer my questions.

Investment performance of the product over time is not in Matt's gift to guarantee and remains to be seen, but the outcome of consolidating my pensions into a single fund with Aviva has been dealt with smoothly and with excellent customer service throughout.

Without a FA my Stocks & Shares seemed to be almost at a standstill after over 10 years. I contacted Old Mutual Wealth who put me in touch with Norwich based firm Hoyl Independent Advisers and after checking out the company, eventually received an introductory letter from Matt Donovan, who introduced himself as mypotential FA.

How has Matthew Donovan helped you?

Matt help me realise that before looking at financial investments my husband and I needed to consider our plans for Inheritance Tax planning with a view to rewriting our Wills. At my request Matt put me in touch with Margaret Smith of JG Poole Solicitors, who specialises in estate planning, who worked with me over several months to clarify what needed to be included in our new Wills to maximise potential savings on our demise. Through out the whole process, he was supportive and interested in outcomes. After almost three years of gentle guidance and encouragement I have finally been able to sign up to Matts proposals for financial advice.

I am confident Matts proposals for financial gain on my investments will prove to be an improvement over time. I also now have a personal contact should I have a query or concerns.

It is not really easy to give a clear answer to this question because during the period outlined above there has been Covid Pandemic and many personal setbacks. Pension and investment review carried out by Hoyl how took on old client/business advisor account. Matthew took on/over review after an advisor change at Hoyl and was helpful and professional, hopefully will be seeing a better return on investments and pension management for the future. Matthew explained everything clearly and answered all questions and now its a matter of waiting to see if performance out weighs charges. The only negative and not Matthews fault is the fact that due to the Covid thing we were not able to have face to face meeting which I feel adds a more person touch when discussing personal finances and futures. Would however recommend Matthew and Hoyl for the communications and service provided so far.

Using Hoyl was a result of pension transfer to Momentum based in Malta. He had some concerns on the overall advice and suggested some options to maximise my pe^nsion investments.

How has Matthew Donovan helped you?

Matthew was open and honest, provided full transparency of my investment in Momentum and with some (albeit UK based) alternative options for investment plans. The advantage of Matthew is he is customer focused, provides appropriate knowlegeable advice, and within the realms of financial opportunities gave a list of alternatives and supported re-alignment of current Momentum investments.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Initial outcomes were positive but we wait for the end of year results for final comment. I recognise significant growth in some areas but lower performance in other areas. But we live in different times at the moment. I await our update connection to align investments per se, scheduled for April 2021.

What could they have done better?

As I said Matthew provided advice and support for the pension investments, which he recognises requires an annual (at least) assessment. I think quarterly discussions could be useful. Unfortunately being an ex-pat in Germany raises additional challenges and it would have been nice for Hoyl to be able to support my additional investments.

I had savings from a house sale and I wanted advice on investing. I had other investments and wanted to review them. I had been out of the country for several years and wanted to review my UK pension. For all of the above I wanted to focus my investing on sustainable options.

Matthew was very good at gathering the information he needed from me. He was very patient as I was not confident giving so much personal information to a stranger. He listened to what I wanted and advised about the best way to achieve it.

There was a large gap between me signing letters of authority giving Matthew access to my pension and investments, and receiving my suitability report and personal recommendation from him. But before I got too worried I emailed Matthew for reassurance on this and he returned my email straight away. So all I can suggest is that more regular updates on what is happening would be good, even if it's just to say that my file is still under review and it will take a few more weeks.
