What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an accountant?
In 2017 I needed an accountant who understand the complexities of incorporating a family property business for IHT planning and mortgage purposes. I met Jiten through a networking group and have worked with him since.
How has Jiten Shah helped you?
He has planned the incorporation of my individually owned properties, through a partnership into a Limited company. He has dealt with enquiries from HMRC during the incorporation process he has got clearance of all questions from HMRC. He has also helped me migrate from using a very old and outdated MS Money accounting system to Quickbooks. He has helped setup rules and automatic bank feeds which save a lot of time in monthly book keeping. He has navigated the complex rules of incorporation and receiving rental income as an individual to extracting funds from my company via payroll/dividends and director loans
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
During the incorporation process we transferred the beneficial interest of the properties to the investment company. Now we are in the final stages of the incorporation with the legal transfer at Land Registry of the properties from my name to my investment company. We are now looking at the next stages of IHT planning and future protection of the business for future generations of the family.
What could they have done better?
It is only going through a complex legal process such as incorporation that you realise how difficult it can be dealing with HMRC. Tax law changes constantly which is a challenge. Jiten reads tax manuals and case law and often understands more than people that he speaks to at HMRC. As I look back over the last 6 years I am not sure we could have improved much as we were always dependent on responses from HMRC which always take forever.
