As a growing business their was a desire for a more "by the book solution"

Our company was onboarded and the accountant assigned to our account began remedial work bringing our VAT claims up to date, filing returns, company accounts

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes - the work was excellent.

What could they have done better?

I found the rates extortionate compared to what I'm paying now - at the rate of £175 per VAT return and over a grand for a accounts filing it's definately for more "corporate clients" and those who can splash out, but for a small business trying to keep their costs down it wasn't really workable, if we were a large company who could afford to absorb that kind of expenditure however I'd have been more than happy to recommend them, but for smaller companys needing something more cost effective a local freelancer is able to do the job quite well

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an accountant?

My business was with a large London accountancy firm previously. Who'd gone though significant growth in the time I was a customer with more staff and bigger, better and shinier offices. Growth inevitably comes with increased costs which more often than not results in higher client fees. The work they did for us was of the highest order we just couldn't rationalise increasingly higher fees.

I needed to find the same level of expertise and service from a firm more appropriate for the size of my business. Chris has more than measured up and indeed exceeded expectations.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

His level of knowledge is everything you hope for in an advisor of this kind. He's responsive and manages to get across sometimes complex processes in an engaging an assimilable way.

What could they have done better?

Nothing.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an accountant?

Our incumbent accountants had grown very large and expensive and did not feel like good value for money. I also felt that some of the personal touch had been lost in the company's growth.

How has Chris Paterson helped you?

Chris has advised me on all aspects of our business. He is very prompt, courteous and knowledgeable with no hint of 'stuffiness' you sometimes find in people who are very expert. He also explains things very clearly and simply.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The outcomes I needed included the successful transition to making tax digital, and I also wanted to simplify some of our accountancy systems. Chris has been incredibly helpful in enabling us to achieve these goals. And incredibly patient too.

What could they have done better?

I can't think of anything.

I have a business and needed advice with regards to structuring payments and setting up payroll etc

How has Chris Paterson helped you?

Chris has been amazing. He is so quick to respond and just gets things done. He helped with switching over from the previous accountant. I had an urgent application to make and Chris turned it around in no time. I just feel comfortable knowing I’m in really good hands.
