I own several properties in York and my house in Scotland which I wanted to refurbish, new bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen. Equity release seemed an obvious way of raising capital and leaving a comfort zone "float" whilst giving us a better mortgage deal.

How has Christopher South helped you?

Chris is very pro-active, attentive and listens. He doesn't try to sell anything, after discussing our circumstances, financial needs and property values, he responded very quickly with options and explained exactly how they'd work. Asked which he'd advise he explained carefully which option he'd chose and why - whilst again giving us a fair comparison with the other options. The legal representatives acting for the borrower were incredibly lax and inefficient, months going by with emails lost or not responded to. Chris and my elected lawyers chased this firm of Solicitors relentlessly and eventually the agreed funds were transferred after almost a year. Throughout, Chris was very professional, kept in touch and showed great commitment and interest - and kept a sense of proportion and humour throughout, despite my annoyance at the constant delays.

Yes, eventually but as indicated above, through absolutely no fault of Chris', the money agreed was not available for almost a year.

What could they have done better?

Both Chris and my elected Lawyers, Boyd Legal in Aberdeen, were absolutely exemplary. Considering how much extra work the lender's Solicitors caused and how little this was reflected in the eventual fees paid To Chris and Boyd Legal, I cannot imagine a better service.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an equity release adviser?

We already had an equity release plan in place but reading an article in The Sunday Telegraph on the subject in which Chris South was quoted, I found that it was possible to do the equivalent of a re- mortgage but in equity release. I contacted the company and spoke to Chris.

How has Christopher South helped you?

He was great from the start, even though we were actually miles apart he was in constant touch. We had all the guidance, advice and expertise we needed to set up the plan. The process went exactly as explained to us and we never felt " out of touch " at anytime. Well done Chris and the team.

We certainly did. We wanted to carry out some house refurbishment and bump up our savings, we can now do this.

Needed to obtain funding for the purchase of a Care Needs Annuity to secure my elderly father's ongoing dementia care in his own home, rather than him having to move into a residential care home.

How has Christopher South helped you?

The initial discussion provided enough information for me to decide if my preferred course of action was financially possible and allowed me to obtain quotations for the annuity with the knowledge of how much funding was available. Acting under POA for my father the equity release process seemed quite involved but was clearly explained. I felt I was kept informed and Chris was chasing the progress of my application with the insurer effectively and in a timely way. As the same insurer was also selected to provide a deferred Care Needs Annuity Chris liased with the advisor handling this to expedite the whole transaction and reduce the overall paperwork required.

I am a whole of Market Independent Mortgage Advisor and after referring many Equity Release clients to big firms that I want mention their names, just overall lacked good service to my clients in this area.And didn't leave a clear understanding about what they was entering into.Lets not forget these are retired people needing care and attention and looking after in this field.
