What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I felt it was a good time to organize an annuity from a couple of my pensions (current rates are good), and just wanted reassurance that I was doing the right thing

How has Madeleine Sunley helped you?

I had already worked out what I was going to do and why, but I just wanted to talk it through with an expert. She listened to my reasons and then checked the current annuity rates on offer. It turns out my own pension company is offering a good rate. This was all in a first meeting and cost me nothing! I will need more help when I access my draw down pension in the future, so I will be back to see Madeleine then.

Our financial situation had changed significantly. We recently accepted a job overseas and we were about to receive a large cash sum after selling our house in the UK. We needed to understand if we should keep our UK pensions and where we could place our money so that we could get access to it again easily.

How has Madeleine Sunley helped you?

Madeleine did a high-level overview of our pensions, gave us a clear direction on what we could do with these, and with our UK stage pensions. She was also very helpful in explaining how we could place our cash in bank accounts that would ensure we had immediate access yet were covered by FSA guarantees in case of bank liquidation.

The cash is indeed well looked after. The pensions is an ongoing conversation, not least because I'm now contributing to a Dutch pension as well. However, thanks to Madeleine I'm more knowledgeable about my own finances and able to make informed decisions.

My wife had just started to receive the new state pension and we both had private pensions which we started many years ago. We decided that we should find out how we could access our private pensions and whether we would have enough money to last us if I were to take early retirement being younger than my wife as the next 20 years are so important to us both. We felt that we needed a professional person to take control of our pensions as I have little confidence when it comes to investments.

Madeleine helped us by first confirming an up to date pension value and explaining the different options available to us. Madeleine then went on to giving us different financial scenarios on our choice of retirement plans. She confirmed that we have enough to allow me to retire and for us to fulfil our dreams. I was nearing 55 and was looking for a review of my current SIPP and confirmation that I could afford take semi-retirement in the near future.

A full review of both my SIPP and my wife's, confirmation of state pension entitlements, full review of of old company pensions and advice on what to do with them, advice on inheritance tax / planning, review and advice of our current wills. Madeleine produced financial projections based on a full analysis of our spending and projected spending along with investment performance across our SIPP's in a easy to understand format which has allowed us to make informed decisions.

I wanted someone local, independent and pro-active. Someone who took time and effect to get to know me and what I wanted out off life. Also, to bring all my various investments into a lot less pots enabling us both to keep track easier. Madeleine did all the re-arranging/re-locating leaving me to get on with my life!

As so many people our pension planning was not at all organised with paper work and accounts all over the place. We needed someone to advise us on pension planning as we were both n earing pension age.

I sold my flat and had some cash in my pockets that needed to do a bit of work for me!.

How has Madeleine Sunley helped you?

Madeleine was awesome. We sat down and went through all my existing financial situations. We then had a long talk about what I was doing in my life and where I wanted to be at various points in the future. She then put together a financial model that told me where I was in relation to where I needed to me. Then she assessed how risk averse I was and finally my cash was invested accordingly.

I've had an exceptionally good couple of years investing with Madeleine. My pension is in a excellent state and my personal investment programme was so successful I have just managed to buy my next house where in a market I thought I would be waiting lots more years to be able to afford. I've also got suitable income in place just in case. Madeleine takes on all the hard work of putting the cash in the right place and making sure the investments align with the right risk profile. She is also very good and answering silly little questions which a more inexperienced investor, like myself, occasionally has!.

What could they have done better?

Honestly, I really don't know what. Madeleine is a lovely person. Entirely trustworthy and professional. These sorts of people are never cheap but as long as you are looking to play a longer game, I think Madeleine and her team are well worth the money. She is always available for a chat when you need so I've never felt neglected or uninformed!
