What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We are in our early 60s and had been thinking about retiring within the next few years. We started to realise that our financial planning was very rudimentary and that we needed expert advice if we were to make sensible decisions about our assets and pensions so that we could make better plans for our financial future. We also wanted advice on how and when to divest our assets to help our children onto the property ladder and when was a good time to start our pensions and when or if to move pension funds.

How has Joshua Oranu-Noah helped you?

Josh took a very detailed look at our finances over some weeks and months. He had to do quite a bit of detective work for us and was eventually able to track down all of our pension pots and tell us how much they were worth. We both have very busy jobs and financial planning had not been a priority for us. Josh was able to advise us on when we should start to take our pensions from a tax point of view and mapped out how our finances would look after retirement as well as giving advice on how to maximise our retirement income. He was also able to advise us on inheritance planning and the tax implications for passing on assets to our children. Since meeting Josh I am much more on top of our financial affairs than I had been before and realise that at our stage of life I need to be doing more planning, more saving and a lot less spending. We are very grateful to Josh for his patience, his clear explanations and the considerable effort he put into helping us understand our situation.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We are still in the process of making decisions about when to retire and take our pensions, how to invest any lump sums from pension and when to sell property. We are also working to reduce the hours we are working in a tax efficient way and although things are still undecided we have a much clearer picture of what we would be best to do in the coming year or two. Furthermore I am working fewer hours which has improved my quality of life and reduced my tax bill.

What could they have done better?

Nothing, he was really great.

I wanted to learn how to better manage my money to maximise my saving capacity.
