I am copying below (on request) an email recently sent to Alastair: Dear Alastair We have taken some considerable time to reach a decision on our IFA, which is why it's been so long since I've been in touch. I'm really sorry to tell you that we've decided (this week) to go with Legacy Wealth rather than AAB Wealth. This is no reflection on you whatsoever - in fact your personal rapport, competence and amazing helpfulness up front ahead of a commitment from is made our decision really difficult. It's also why I needed to send this email out of both courtesy and respect. In the end we couldn't justify the extra 0.5% ongoing annual fee over Legacy in the context of returns of perhaps 5% or 6% and, given the size of the lump sum, what that translates to in absolute terms. I want to thank you very much indeed for your help and personal approach. If things don't work out in the longer term with Legacy, you'll be the first point of contact we'll turn to. I expect to retire from full-time employment by the end of 2024. I had a standard employer pension pot and felt I needed independent financial advice about the merits of moving the pot to another provider and to manage the funds more proactively.

After receiving lump sums from inhertiance, I needed to find an advisor that could guide me with financial planning.

How has Alastair Moore helped you?

Alastair has explained 'financial terms' in layman terms making it easier to understand the options on offer to you. He has replied quickly to queries. He is available to chat to at any time and use of the portal for secure communication and files is hugely beneficial if you want to check anything. Alastair has not been at all 'pushy' and I feel he really does have your best interests at heart. As a client, he gives a very personal and professional service. He is incredibly knowledge and I feel very sercure and confident in the finanacial advice is has given and is giving me.

As far as AAB and Alastair Moore has been, in terms of advice and service, the outcome has been excellent.

Yes, definitely. Alastair has been our adviser for 4 years. He’s knowledgeable, professional and clearly explains progress and options.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had been receiving “countdown” notifications from my pension provider to my selected retirement date, with broad figures in the notifications about how much was in the fund. However with 2.5 years left in the countdown these figures meant nothing to me. Did I have enough pensions and savings to be able to retire at 55 and enjoy a consistent lifestyle (with treats and travel) beyond this time? My husband also had a pension and savings and again we didn’t know what that meant in terms of real money supporting us in the next stage of life. I discovered Alastair and AAB Wealth and what they could do at a presentation and liked that they would look at your full portfolio (pensions, investments, savings, other income) and project forward your annual spend in retirement.

How has Alastair Moore helped you?

Alastair was excellent in listening to us and what we wanted. He made sure we included all our “wealth”, understood our objectives in retirement and things we wanted to do but never did as full time workers. We both thought the financial report and projection into the future that we received was excellent. Alastair was flexible in changing things to suit us - for example we wanted to achieve a higher spend of our resources in our 50s, 60s snd 70s and then reduce it after that. Alastair also made sure to include “headroom” for the bank of mum and dad should we be called upon in the future. Alastair presented a report that showed we could retire at 55 and our available spend into our dotage (I hope).

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes absolutely. I have the confidence now that my level of income is assured and we have enough to retire at 55. It is also amazingly liberating to have the surety that you now have choices career wise at 55 - perhaps going part-time or having a career shift and not 100% retirement (unless you want to)

What could they have done better?

Nothing that I can think of. Alastair and his team were proactive and followed up all the necessary information gathering making my John in the process fairly painless.
