My husband had always looked after his personal portfolio, but it was becoming more difficult to manage. After he attended a pension advice panel in work he contacted Platinum and we've being very happy ever since.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was forced to take early retirement from teaching due to ill health. As a member of the UTU I was encouraged to use Platinum Financial Planning for advice.

How has Trevor Johnston helped you?

My initial contact was with an advisor called Alan who retired. I was very worried that I wouldn’t be as happy with his replacement. This couldn’t have been further from the truth. Trevor has been wonderful and very calm and patient with me in advising me how to best look after my money. I like that Trevor is very aware of my ignorance on all the intricacies of finance and for this reason explains everything fully and in a language that I can understand. Trevor is very able and professional in his role but has the ability to use language to suit an individual like me in her 60’s.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Unfortunately not, but this is nothing to do with Trevor but recent problems in the world which have touched us all. No one could have predicted Covid, the war in Ukraine and the recent cost of living rise. Onwards and upwards for making lots of money this year ?

What could they have done better?

Had it not been for Trevor’s advice and the Platinum investment team working behind the scenes I might have had a serious loss. It is very important to me that I can feel that Trevor is knowledgeable in his advice. I am very happy to know that he ultimately wants to do the best by me and my individual finances.

A true gentleman! Open, honest, respectful, confident, friendly, knowledgable and a people-person! I was plunged into the unknown by a sudden out of the blue health scare? This was a reality check for my life and my future and still is! I realised I wanted to live and to live life to the full without financial worries, if I come out the other end! I have worked in the NICS for over 38 years and I have been lazy and flippant with my money and my future. Trevor was hosting a workshop for staff in NICS to educate us on all things pension wise and financial planning. This I attended-though it is a lot of information to initially take on-board, but thankfully the offer of a one-to-one follow up session was presented. This I took advantage of to sort my head out with all my own facts, figures and personal circumstances. I met Trevor, who respected my wish of mask wearing and step by step he led me through the process of financial planning for now and the future. We also discussed my pension and ‘what if’ circumstances if I had to leave work because of my health. As Trevor explained everything, the penny started to drop with me and I was having eureka moments of clarity and what seemed like a massive minefield started to click with me. Over the years I had saved a substantial sum of funds which were kept in low interest saving accounts. I felt it necessary to seek some professional advice on a better way to save or invest my money for the future. I also wanted some advise on my works pension.

How has Trevor Johnston helped you?

When I first met Trevor to seek financial advice I immediately warmed to him. He took his time to listen to me and understood my background with regards to my savings. He put me at ease with any issues I had, answering questions accurately and clearly explaining my options when investing. He guided me through the process of setting up my invest portfolio with no issues. During the first year of investing I was able to speak with him on a couple of occasions when I needed clarity and reassurance on some issues. I had my first annual review early this year with Trevor and found him engaging, encouraging and honest. Even though the markets did not perform while he gave me confidence to increase my risk profile, explaining the possibility of better performance but also confirming that nothing was guaranteed.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

To be honest with the markets current poor performance the value of my portfolio is not very profitable, so at the moment I know I will have to invest for 5-10 years before hopefully seeing a more profitable outcome. This was explained to me by Trevor.

What could they have done better?

Nothing really. I guess maybe going with a riskier profile, but I took the advice from Trevor and kept a more conservative approach as I was new to investing.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had a lump sum from a workplace pension to invest and did not need to have ready access to this. I knew that interest rates available through normal high street banking channels would give me a poor return on my investment. I'd attended a pre-retirement seminar and was made became aware through this that a financial adviser would give me sound, impartial advice.

How has Trevor Johnston helped you?

Trevor has provided clear advice in plain english! Nothing is too much trouble and he always take time to ensure that I fully understand how the investments are being managed and how they are performing. Trevor has explained the various options available to me when I decide to access my savings to provide an income.

Initially my investment performed very well however given the volatile markets in recent years the return has not been as good. Trevor has always explained how current factors are influencing performance. Despite this I am still confident that by managing my investment and moving funds about, Trevor has achieved the best outcome possible.
