What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

This is a follow up review. We have been with Kevin for almost 5 years now. Initial interest was retirement planning, pension management as well as a general financial health check.

How has Kevin Titmus helped you?

Kevin provided a whole life-cycle management proposal for our retirement years tailored to our needs and ambitions. He took a considerable amount of time to understand what we wanted from our retirement. Kevin will always take the time to explain 'how things actually work' in the financial markets. I had some questions relating to pensions funds with regard to the performance of stock market investments vs government bonds. After a thorough 10 minute explanation I had a clear view of what was happening and why it was happening. (Thank you).

Yes. Kevin has also worked hard over the last few years to drive down the costs associated with our investments and we have seen a marked reduction in management fees.

As we neared our retirement dates we wished to look at the pension provision we had in place to simplify and optimise our future income and investments.

Kevin has provided us with consistent, high quality advice which has allowed us to navigate the particularly difficult circumstances over the last few years (COVID). He helped us manage our way through the pandemic by changing some of our pension strategies to protect the capital value of the pension I use for draw-down. I started a second business recently, and this month I have consulted with 6 different financial advisors about future planning. Kevin was, by small no margin, the best experience amongst them. Not only did he show a deeper and wider range of knowledge about my particular industry than the others, but also took more time to understand my character, direction and personal circumstance; and what the best move would be for me personally (With many of the others advisors it felt very much like a general sales pitch, keen to quickly lock me in to their 'unique and essential' services, whether I needed them or not!). Yes. I have appropriate income protection cover now. Kevin also helped to arrange a mortgage which was complicated by the current rapidly changing property market and supports through some complicated last minute changes. I am approaching retirement and wanted to optimise my finances for that.

How has Kevin Titmus helped you?

I thought I was quite savvy with my financial planning but Kevin immediately found about £1,300 of monthly savings just through organising investment costs better and also some tax shelters for other investments that hadn’t occurred to me. I know there is plenty more to come.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, very happy with the outcome so far and I wish I had approached Kevin 20 years ago, I would be better off now if I had.

What could they have done better?

Nothing really. There was a delay between providing all our information and having the feedback presentation but this was due the slowness of some institutions giving Halcyon access to our accounts.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Divorce, went for full and final settlement to secure the family home for myself and my son so that my ex husband could not come and take half the proceeds when my son was 18, also to stop my ex husband from accessing my pensions.

How has Kevin Titmus helped you?

Kevin found a new mortgage provider for my home and secured a full and final settlement payment to give to my ex enabling me to buy him out and remove him from the deeds so that he couldn't take half the proceeds of my home when my son was 18. He even found new providers for my utility services and sorted my direct debits out. I felt comfortable with Kevin every step of the way and on the day when all the transfers of monies went through he rang to confirm all was well. I felt looked after at all times.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had never considered consulting a financial advisor until just before I retired 6 years ago. I googled 'Financial Advisors near me' and Kevin must have popped up near the top of the list. He give me a free financial health check and the deal was done.

How has Kevin Titmus helped you?

Initially he consolidated my various pension pots into a single ‘moderate risk’ portfolio which delivered an overall (organic) average growth of 5% over the first 4 years. Eighteen or so months ago, with the increasingly gloomy prospects for financial markets I asked Kevin to find me a safer home. So far so good, after an initial dip my fund has nearly recovered.

I had several pension pots sat doing nothing and my work circumstances had changed so needed to get my pensions organized and working for me.

Kevin took time to go through my pensions and investments and after reviewing them, took time explain all the pros and cons of the different things we could do, in a way that I could understand and answer any questions my wife and I had, he also took the time to ask questions of what my goals and asperations where not only for me but my wife and children and their futures. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

This is a follow-up review. We have now been with Kevin for a little over 2 years. Our original reasons were - Having retired early we needed a general financial review as well as advice on: Pensions, property, and other investments.

How has Kevin Titmus helped you?

We needed a financial plan to see us through the whole retirement lifecycle. A plan which took into account the major milestones in retirement: State pension age, mid-retirement (up to mid 80s), later retirement and ultimately long term care. Since each of these stages would see our requirements change Kevin produced a plan tailored to meet these differing needs. This year with the Covid pandemic has been particularly challenging. Since our pension investments are ultimately tied to stock market performance this was a worrying time. Kevin pre-empted our concerns when he contacted us to discuss some strategies to help protect the value of our pension investments. With his advice and help we have managed to weather the worst of the storm. The investment vehicles Kevin recommended have performed remarkably well in exceptional circumstances and with a little bit of careful management we have survived a particularly difficult year.

We are very happy with the initial outcome and the level of service which Kevin has provided. The investment vehicles he recommended were performing better than expected prior to the Covid pandemic. The other essential feature of any client relationship is communication and Kevins' has been excellent. We wanted a set of investments which offered low-maintenance but would still allow us to make changes if necessary - as we had to do earlier this year.

What could they have done better?

We are of an age where retirement planning and preparing for the next phase of our lives beyond full time work is becoming an important priority and we wanted to be sure our investments and savings would be enough to support our expectations and future plans. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I initially looked for a financial adviser when the opportunity to transfer my pension out of my company's scheme presented itself. I was seeking advice as to how best to proceed, whether transferring out made sense financially, and what sort of risks it would entail. I was also keen to better understand how both of my pensions, a preserved and active one, worked, and how I could maximize the benefits from both.

How has Kevin Titmus helped you?

During our first meeting, it quickly became clear that whilst Kevin would be able to advise on, and help with, any potential pension transfer, his approach to financial planning was very different to other advisers I'd spoken to and been told about. First and foremost, Kevin was interested in understanding what lifestyle I and my family aspired to, both now and in the longer term. He explained that knowing what we were aiming for in life was essential in being able to provide the best advice in terms of the pensions I and my wife had. By thoroughly reviewing our current financial situation, and asking about our plans for the remainder of our working lives and then through into retirement, Kevin was able to project what capital and income we'd need at various stages of our lives. He also assisted us in taking stock of our debts, making suggestions to help us reduce the amount of interest we were paying on unsecured loans, and helping to formulate a plan to get these cleared more quickly. Through Kevin's advice, we considered things that we'd never really discussed before, such as saving for our son's future, getting into a position where we could move into a new home much more quickly than we ever thought possible, and actually planning ahead for the things we'd like to do once retired, rather than those things feeling like a pipe dream. Once Kevin had completely reviewed our financial situation, and had a detailed understanding of our aspirations, he then provided multiple pension projections, based on different models, so we could understand what position we'd likely be in depending on the decisions we made. Ultimately Kevin's advice helped us to make the decision to transfer my pension out of my company's preserved scheme and into a SIPP. With three pensions to consider, Kevin has helped us to plan exactly what we'll be drawing on and when, enabling us to decide on when we will retire, safe in the knowledge that income won't be an issue for us at any point in the future. The key point here is the future planning. We've gone from assuming that we'd have a set income each year once we'd retired, to being able to plan for significantly more expenditure during our first period of retirement, and tapering off as we get older. Kevin has helped us to give a great deal of thought to what we'll actually need at those various stages, so our money really works for us.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The outcome is better than I ever could have hoped for. Initially I simply wanted assistance in making a decision on whether to transfer my pension into a SIPP. Kevin's advice helped me to reach a decision, and transferring the pension when I did led to a very favourable transfer value. I'll now have far greater flexibility once I reach pensionable age as a result of this. The outcome goes far beyond just the pension transfer however, with Kevin's advice having helped to put us on a far sounder financial footing, and having a plan now for the remainder of our working lives and beyond. The things that we aspire to in retirement now seem entirely achievable, and this is very much down to Kevin identifying the things that are most important to us, and coming up with a bespoke financial plan.
