I was looking into options for early retirement. The financial climate was quite unpredictable due to the Covid crisis and I needed sound independent advice to see what options were available to me.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was becoming self employed, as a partner in a law firm, and wished to take more specific advice in respect of my pension interests as well as general investment and protection matters.

Richard has helped me establish a clear plan, to balance both my short, medium and long term needs, and helped me to understand the steps that I need to take to achieve such. He has also helped me to put in place cost effective but appropriate protection policies to ultimately protect my family in the future.

Yes. In spite of there being a great many headwinds, I have seen my investments grow, have put more effective protection in place and have a greater understanding of my assets, my aims and objectives, and how I am going to achieve them. I wanted to transfer my RBS DB pension scheme out to a DC scheme for various reasons - Richard helped to source this advice and has managed the investments for me ever since. I am 18 years from retirement.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I inherited Richard from a friend when I was given a lasting power of attorney and initially I could see little reason for continuing with Richard's services as I believed I could do the job just as well. It quickly transpired that Richard added more value to my friend's portfolio than I ever could and that I would be very foolish to even try. In addition, it gave me peace of mind to know that my friend's finances were in such a safe pair of hands.

Early retirement with several pensions. I planned to use drawdown as a means to fund my initial retirement.

How has Richard Platt helped you?

Richard arranged the transfer of monies from two pension funds which did not do drawdown to one which did. He offered clear advice and was realistic in providing me with time scales. Richard did an assessment of my situation and I have found him to be very warm and approachable throughout my contact with him. He is approachable and communicates easily listening to clients wishes… I have no doubt that he is acting in my best interest with regard to managing my investments in the long term.

Yes I have been able to retire and my investment returns have been positive despite a challenging market.

I have not had a pension review for well over a decade, as I reached 55, I decided it was a good time to seek advice. Within a couple of minutes, I realised I should have sought advice earlier.

How has Richard Platt helped you?

I had accrued some credit card debt, it was causing me some uncomfortable moments. Along with being furloughed, it certainly impacted my savings. Richard explained how, by taking a lump sum from my pension, I could drastically reduce my outgoings. And by following his advice to the letter, I am virtually debt free.

Yes. I took a lump sum which cleared my debts, and left me with a few pounds over to treat myself.

Richard was able to advise on the options available to me and enabled me to transfer and access my pension to allow for an early retirement. Following the unexpected refusal of one company to transfer monies to a planned drawdown account, Richard initiated a complaint for me which resulted in the transfer going ahead as had been agreed.

I work in wealth management myself but I don't not have time to manage my own investments and want someone else to take on the responsibility. I also needed specific pension transfer advice.

Richard explained the pension transfer process and took time to understand my needs. We talked about the pros and cons of transferring out of the DB scheme. Richard kept me fully up to date during the process and I never had to chase him at all. When we came to the time to make the investment it was during COVID and the original advice was provided before. He reviewed the funds and changed them based on the current climate and performance.
