I wanted to come out of a Final salary pension & we were unable to do so unless we moved to an IFA.

We were making more from our investments Ben wasnt controlling. We asked Ben to make changes to our portfolio allocation but Ben wasnt perpared to do this as he said he had many clients to look after & he couldnt afford to spend time rebalancing our portfolio. It appeard to be 1 size fits all, which wasnt what we wanted. Bens advice fee cost of over £7,000 per year wasnt value for money at all based on the returns Ben was achieving for us.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
No. We were with Ben for over 3 years. We found Ben's fees very expensive for the quality of advice we got. Ben made over £7,000 from my pension pot & Bens advice last year netted us 0.64%.
What could they have done better?
Bens fees are far too high based based on our experience of over 3 years.

We did not provide advice on transferring out from your final salary pension; a Pension Transfer specialist provided this, and we took over the management of your pension following the completion of the transfer. We provided you with full financial planning, including a lifetime cash flow, demonstrating your ability to retire when you wish to, and you advised us that you valued this service. We recommended a global, diverse, evidence-based investment portfolio aligned to both your agreed risk profile and one that should deliver long-term annualised returns to more than meet the minimum return your financial plan required. Despite our best efforts, we could not persuade you of the benefits of a diverse global portfolio over those of your unregulated high-risk investments. We would like to clarify that over the time your investments were under our management (approx. four years), your portfolio returned just under 10% - this is net of all charges, including the initial fees paid to the Pension Transfer Specialist to transfer out of your DB pension. Unfortunately, your misunderstanding of our proposition and how we work led us to terminate our service agreement – this is what we believe has led you to leave this review. We wish you and your new adviser all the best for the future.

Genuinely difficult to say. Ben has constructed a very good portfolio for me that performs well and is resilient to shocks in the financial markets. We have used all the available allowances such as ISA, Pension, CGT to best effect.

I sometimes find the charts on the Cordiner website difficult to use and cannot easily see how my investments are performing relative to each other. This information was available in the TFAC website.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
Approximately thirty years I had built up some savings on deposit as a customer of Barclays Bank and they asked me if I would like to speak to their financial advisor, which I did. I followed this advisor when he transferred to another company which eventually led me to Bates Investments Co. and then to Frank Rosenhead and Ben Cordiner via the Financial Advice Co.
How has Ben Cordiner helped you?
Initially Ben reconfigured my investments into a more manageable portfolio as I was holding quite a lot of Funds by then and found it difficult to see how they were performing. The new portfolio was excellent in that the risks and costs were relatively low but the performance was excellent. The portfolio was rebalanced regularly to restore the weighting and it was easy to see how it was performing.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes, the performance of my investments has been exceptional due to Ben and he understood level of risk that I was prepared to take in order to achieve this by forming a general view of my personality.
What could they have done better?
The TFAC website contained fund performance charts that were excellent at following the progress of the funds within my portfolio but these were not replicated in the Cordiner Wealth website.

Ben and the Team have advised on where our savings are best invested and the level of risk attached to these investments. They keep up to date with new options and savings schemes. The once a year meetings with Ben are very detailed and personalised to our life style and not rushed.

Yes. He is very proactive in advising when changes should be made to our Portfolio.
What could they have done better?
I can’t think of anything in particular. Occasionally small administration errors happen but that is a common occurrence with all business. It as always corrected immediately.

We have been with Cordiner Wealth for very many years, initially when both of us were in paid employnent and latterly in retirement. Over the years our needs have changed and we have been advised accordingly.

We wanted a hands on adviser to help us plan for an eventual business exit and to assist us in forecasting forward to see how the business would support our life goals

ben took us through an in depth discovery session where he got to know us as a family and then followed this up with a strategy and implementation session. It enabled us to see where we were, what our current investments looked like and what we needed to do to achieve different stages in our life. It wasn't just about pensions and retirement but what else did we want to do with our lives. ben gave us the space from a very busy business to see what could be possible.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
We are getting there - and faster than we thought we would. Ben checks in with us regularly. Has invested in the platforms so we too can check in on our progress and works in partnership with us to help us stay on track.
What could they have done better?
We suggested a quarterly check in as opposed to annual as the world is very different at the minute and a year is a long time. Quarterly enables us to adapt and re-evaluate and take action sooner to help us stay on track.

Being aware of the vagaries of the investment market it’s to be expected that valuations will always fluctuate. However, The ‘wrap’ that Ben advised us to use has always performed well.
What could they have done better?
Nothing really. We value not having to worry, or engage too much in the management of our investments. We’re confident that Ben and his team will always act in our best interests.

Ben is a good communicator. He listened to our plans and advised us on investments, pensions and life insurance appropriate to our needs. There has been no pushing us into things, but he explains everything clearly and then lets us consider options.

As predicted so far
What could they have done better?
Happy with what Ben has done so far and the progress we have made. Feel have a much better handle on finances now compared to before we met him, and that we have someone to turn to with knowledge and experience for future planning. Only down side to us is distance we travel to see him, although much can be done by Zoom.
