What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Having been widowed I needed advice about my own and inherited investments and how to plan for my future financial needs.

How has Ben Sloggett helped you?

First and foremost Ben is always on hand to help and advise. He replies very quickly to emails or requests and is patient and supportive. Ben has excellent people skills and can explain both my financial planning overview and the finer details involved in a way that gives me a clear focus ahead and confidence in taking the next steps. He has a great sense of humour too - which is a huge asset I believe.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My wife and I were looking for clarity on what our respective pensions would provide in terms of financial security and the option of us taking early retirement.

How has Ben Sloggett helped you?

Ben used the financial modelling tools of Intelligent Pensions to give clear illustrations of our potential future incomes, explored the options available to us and their implications, as well as advising on the tax implications and most tax efficient ways of accessing our pensions.

Ben's assisstance in planning for our early retirement was invaluable and his ongoing support has been very useful in managing our finances prior to reaching state pension age. So useful in fact, that we both retired earlier than originally planned.

Back office support to Ben needed to be kept under scrutiny to ensure it accurately reflected our discussions with him.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was unable to keep abreast of the changes that continued to occur on taxation of pension savings in the last few years before my retirement. I knew I needed to change my arrangements before retirement and prepare to maximise tax relief.

Ben assisted me to change my savings arrangements and also advised when I should consider revising my risk assessment to investments. He also advised me to consider a new car purchase using my pension pot which had sufficient funds to present no risk to my loss of desired income in retirement.

PPP Portfolio management fees seem a bit high but they are very efficient in dealing with my requests so I consider the fees acceptable.

I was approaching retirement and wanted to use an income drawdown facility with my pension funds. Intelligent Pensions was recommended to me as an appropriate, professional firm who could manage my funds and give me good financial advice.

Ben is very easy to talk to and our annual review meetings, initially face to face but now on Zoom are very thorough and informative. Ben gives advice which I haven’t always taken but I feel confident in my dealings with him.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Better than I hoped for when my drawdown arrangement was set up in 2006. The current value of my fund is some 10% higher than it was in 2006, despite taking an income for the past 17 years.

I was introduced to Intelligent Pensions by my financial advisor. The analytic approach to selecting investments within a SIPP from a much broader range of opportunities really appealed - compared to the more limited investment options with 'mainstream' pension funds.

How has Ben Sloggett helped you?

Ben is a great guy and he has been brilliant at reviewing different retirement planning scenarios. He asks absolutely the right questions to help work out the best strategy. The Intelligent Pensions team has developed some excellent tools that Ben can use to bring the different scenarios to life and help in decision making.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

This is still work in progress given that I am only on the fringe of moving into retirement. However the retirement planning undertaken with Ben has helped open up a gradual 'semi-retirement' strategy.

What could they have done better?

Nothing comes to mind. The annual review process together with the depth of information available through the Intelligent Pensions portal is excellent.
