Back in 2015/16 in our mid 40's my partner and I had a conversation about retirement. We had always thought that it was a long time off and that the future would take care of itself in some way. After working out how much we thought we would need each year to have a good lifestyle and then multiplying it by how many years that would be over we realised that we going to be very short.

Jeremy initially advised about the best options available and also helped transfer a small private pension to get this started. Over the following years we have met annually and the pension has been adjusted each time to get the best plan available. He also advised us to look into estate planning and power of attorney which we have now done, for anyone who has yet to look into this it's well worth spending 10 minutes to see how important it is.. On our most recent visit Jeremy carried out a "Cashflow modelling plan". This is something that I've tried to do myself over the years with figures on bits of paper with very limited results. All of our planned incomes were entered into the model, these included our current pension pots, planned future earnings including the option of reduced hours when we both reach a certain age and also our current/future outgoings. People often speak about how much you will need to enjoy a comfortable retirement, this modelling plan gave a realistic breakdown of how much we should hopefully have available and it was also adjusted for inflation.

We're currently on track to where we want to be. Jeremy's advice has proved invaluable over the years and I would recommend everyone to see a financial adviser whatever their circumstances.
