On leaving the Army it was apparent that changes had to be made whilst delving into a different career path. I also had 3 forms of pension, old and current respectively. I sought Gareth out via a phone call and through many visits to my home and to his office I began to trust the advice given and authorised Gareth to act on my behalf - I have not had reason to look back.

Since my previous financial advice provider (Barclays Bank) quit the market I had been managing my own investments satisfactorily for some years. However approaching the age of 60 I had a pension about to mature and needed good advice on what to do. I investigated companies and advisers on the internet and made appointments with several - I selected Gareth Harris because he seemed to be the adviser who was most interested in MY circumstances and requirements.

How has Gareth Harris helped you?

As stated above Gareth gave advice which seemed to be best centred on my needs. I did not need income from my pension or investments as I am still working with no plans to retire. Gareth explained options lucidly and clearly and also quantified my attitude to risk, which is basically steady with the occasional willingness to risk what I can afford to lose - but never have.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

At the current time it is impossible to answer this question as I have not reached the time, probably 10 years from now, when i will need an "outcome". However two points are relevant in discussing outcomes. Firstly, until the Covid-19 lockdown in late March I was seeing a steady growth in funds and remain satisfied that the advice I have been given is extremely sound. Secondly, I have every confidence that Gareth Harris will help guide me when the recovery begins as it may well be that changes to my portfolio will be appropriate. In the meantime I totally agree with the advice he has given me to hold steady during market turbulence. My investments are for the medium to long term and Gareth well understands this.

I have no suggestions for improvements as I am satisfied with Gareth Harris as my financial adviser. His advice is clear, concise and sound. That is all I need. If I were not satisfied, I would no longer be retaining him.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We wanted to reduce our outgoings. We have a buy-to-let property we were using as a pension investment but since the credit crunch we were thinking of selling and using the money to reduce our mortgage on the house we live in.

How has Gareth Harris helped you?

Gareth got us to get all our documentation together and we listed our outgoings and incomings. My husband had a pension that we had stopped paying into as we thought it was worth less than the amount of money we had paid into it. Gareth found that it was actually worth more than we expected and that we may be able to cash it in when my husband is 55 and we could use the money to reduce our mortgage even further. It was also useful to get his thoughts on whether to sell the buy-to-let house or not.

We put the house up for sale and it is currently under offer and we are waiting for the house sale to complete. We have changed pension providers and have a better account now. I am pleased that I contacted Gareth as I have always dealt with financial matters myself and didn't realise that a financial adviser would be any benefit to us as I didn't think we had enough investments/money to warrant paying for the service.

I was looking to consolidate a pension plan from my previous employer within my current employers scheme.

How has Gareth Harris helped you?

Gareth assessed the merits of the both of my pension schemes and provided me with an honest observation that transferring was not in my best interests. He was open in terms of his fees and it was noticeable that after his assessment and advice I paid a substantially smaller fee than if I had transferred my pensions.
