What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were in our late 50's and trying to decide whether we had sufficient pension income to retire. Oliver and his team were 'our permission givers'! We were able to retire confidently knowing we had enough funds to live our retirement in the way we wished.

How has Oliver Secomb helped you?

Oliver helped us to put our somewhat complex pension arrangements into action, ensuring sufficient monthly income in the most tax advantageous way, and ensuring our investment have not been compromised. Our annual reviews have meant we are able to discuss any specific capital projects we are looking to do, and advising us where best to take the funds from. He has also been of support to both our sons, one on his investment strategy and the other on the financial considerations of setting up your own business. Most recently he has assisted my mother in law with moving her investments to a different provider following the retirement of her previous advice.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Absolutely - in fact more so. Oliver and his team are very patient ensuring we understand the implications of our decisions. Oliver has a breadth of knowledge which has been extremely helpful over the years and he is always approachable, available and helpful. He is very personable and friendly and hence is a delight to work with.

What could they have done better?

No comment. Oliver is committed to training young people in the business which we like and is very laudable. On the very odd occasion there has been an admin 'slip' but this has in no way been a problem

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

To consolidate a number of Company pension funds, both defined benefit and defined contribipution

Oliver and his team initially consolidated my funds onto a single SIPP platform, managing communications with all providers. Following on, he has helped immensely in taking a holistic view of our pensions and investments, in order to achieve a balanced portfolio. Throughout the process I’ve learnt a great deal, so that I can understand the reasoning behind all planning decisions.

My portfolio is now well balanced, with due regard to my attitude to risk and growth.

I took early retirement and my history of managing my own investment had produced very poor returns. I needed some professional advice and guidance to ensure I was following an appropriate strategy for my future needs.

Oliver proposed an investment strategy that matched my appetite for risk and provided the security of reserves long into our retirement. We also established an investment strategy to provide funds for our grandchildren at a later date.

The ongoing advice in response to changing circumstances has been very helpful in making decisions to respond to life’s challenges. One would always like higher returns but the markets dictate and through good and bad times returns have averaged out in line with expectations.
