I had several disparate pensions, I wanted to start seriously investing in a pension and didn't know whether to use an existing one or start a new one, I knew that it's not beneficial to necessarily consolidate some pensions and I didn't have time to do the research myself. I'm very wary of the high costs of administration some plans charge and wanted to minimise this. I also had a number of 'what if?' scenario questions around my lifestyle and future income. Paul was recommended to me by a friend and associate.
How has Paul Keeley helped you?
I felt comfortable with Paul at our first meeting. He explained everything thoroughly and answered by questions and re-explained where I didn't quite understand. I felt like he 'was on my side' and really understood what I'm trying to achieve, offering a range of potential options should X or Y occur. He collected all the existing pension information to assess their merits in order to look at the market to see which would be the best pension investment to move them to and he did all the work to make the transfers. It made sense to leave a couple where they are and not to consolidate as it's more financially beneficial for me. The product he identified for me is flexible, with relatively low admin charges and will enable me to trade at a later date should I wish. I felt like the whole process was very transparent and honest which filled me with a level of confidence as I'd shied away from using two financial advisors I'd previously met with. Paul invited me to be in contact with him whenever I had a question or needed further clarification (and I didn't feel stupid asking all my questions).
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes. In-so-far-as I have an investment pension, the disparate pensions are tidied up, and I feel I have a subject matter expert who I can consult as and when I need to. How the pension performs is another matter and together with Paul I'll keep an eye on that over the next 2-5 years.
What could they have done better?
The only thing that comes to mind - and it is not down to the individual financial advisor (i.e. Paul) rather the organisational paperwork, is that I felt that there were alot of questions which the paperwork required me to answer which the organisation wanted to collect, which I don't feel were relevant to the discussion at hand. I queried the purpose of many of them with Paul and I declined to answer some on that basis. I'm sure all financial organisations will try to collect it all but I feel I need to protect my own information and it wasn't a 'need to know' situation.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
I wished to extend my bungalow for which I required a mortgage. In view of my age and modest earnings, I was doubtful that I would be able to secure a mortgage for this purpose.
How has Paul Keeley helped you?
Paul researched the options available and was able to find a provider who would take into account some of the rental income I have under the rent-a-room scheme. He assisted me with the application and ironed out any problems on my behalf as things progressed. He was able to get the provider to agree to a small increase in the mortgage offer when I found that the building work was going to cost a little more than I had anticipated. Paul explained everything very clearly throughout the process and always got back to me promptly when I had any queries.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes, I am very pleased with the outcome. I am doubtful that I would have been able to do this without Paul's help.
