What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
had performed my own research and Pension projections. I wanted a cross check on my numbers and also advice on the best and most efficient strategies for taking my and my wife pensions.
How has David Bright helped you?
Our joint pension situation was perhaps more complicated than some as a result of being TUPE'd four times and having changed employer voluntarily four times as well . David (and his colleagues in their back office) helped by firstly checking my own understanding of our pension positions, putting a structure around these and also by using his industry knowledge and experience couple with statistical modelling to validate future cash flow and income under several conditions in order to provide a worse case, expected case and best case analysis. David has a calm, reflective and authoritative persona that very much helped get his messages across. I don't beleive my wife would object to this statement but he also adapted his approach to explaining various situations to the individual which greatly helped me convince my wife that we were indeed in a reasonable place , pension wise. He also understood the seriousness and magnitude of this phase of peoples lives and put in a great deal of effort (again I will say with colleagues support in the background ...thank you Janet) to resolve questions and concerns, where they did crop up. For me the most valuable input came with the strategies for taking our pensions and David provided an approach that I had not considered, further refining that approach to a subset of his original idea that met our joint objective for income and flexibility. In summary: Authoritative Knowledgeable Patient Adaptable Flexible ....and unusually in most service industries these days...Absolutely puts his customers interest first.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes. I was clear with my reasons for engaging a financial advisor and this was something we jointly discussed at the beginning and David never lost sight of that. So I received the advice and guidance I needed and wanted and our strategy and for taking our various pensions is in place and active.
What could they have done better?
There was nothing major I would say in this regard. I have a particular engagement style that we soon got used to between us and I enjoyed our discussion on options and strategies. It felt a very collaborative process. This comment is not really for David or his company but more for those reading this review. The pension providers are slow...and I mean VERY slow. So I'd advise engaging David a good 12 months before your anticipated retirement date...not because of him or his company ( they chased and pushed the providers hard) but just because the providers are very slow and Im afraid to say, not always over endowed with common sense...another reason fro engaging a provider in my view!
