I had a number of under performing pension plans, I spent two years looking for the right financial adviser dismissing quite a few, in that time for various reasons. I found Lifeplan from reading a Which recommendation of FA 's specialising in people over 50.

Firstly after meeting Gary I was impressed with the bespoke services he offered tailored to my needs , rather than a list of standard products offered by the larger firms of financial advisers. I also got the impression that I could trust him to do the right thing for me rather than what was beneficial for the company.

I have seen my investments grow in line with my expectations, I find it very helpful to be able to login and see how they are performing 24/7 I started drawing down my pension monthly from January 2020, having part tax free and part taxed, the tax is deducted at source. The whole process is working extremely well and I am satisfied with both the investment strategy and the draw down process.

What could they have done better?

I am a detail person so I would like more clarity on the build up of the total fees deducted not just the advisers fees but the investment company, buying and selling etc. More detail of fees deducted was provided in the latest annual review.

When we moved to the NE we were looking for good financial advice

We were clients of Lifeplan (Gary Barnes and Kate Boon) over a period of nearly 3 years

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

No, there were a number of niggling issues and when I put these into writing, I found my relationship terminated with just a few days notice - 3 months from my retirement!

What could they have done better?

Handled myself as a client much better, including appreciating the fact that I had genuine issues which he could have addressed Communicated better

We can't speak highly enough of Gary and Kate. From our first meeting with them we knew we had chosen well. They are very family focused and took time to explain what the company delivers and what we can expect from them in the future. Gary explained in plain English and with the use of flip charts how our funds will be invested - which was a great help as we have no experience of financial investments. They are very professional and experienced. We are looking forward to a long and profitable future with Lifeplan.

I was fortunate enough to be offered early retirement and wanted to financially plan for the future

How has Gary Barnes helped you?

Gary took on board what I was trying to achieve for my wife and myself. With his advise following much discussion with regard to our attitude towards risk/ reward he came up with a financial plan to secure our financial future.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We certainly have. Gary was at pains to point out that what proposed was not any form of get rich quick scheme but a balanced medium to long term approach. In other words a financial life plan for the future. We are fully aware there may be peaks and troughs. But I can only say that over the period of 10 years we have been with Gary the service has delivered exactly what we wanted. Reasonable return with relatively low risk.

What could they have done better?

In all honesty I cannot think of a single thing. If your not up to speed with the mechanics of the financial industry I appreciate it can be quite daunting. However when you have your annual review Gary, Kate and Abigail are at pains to explain things as simply as possible. They will present the various options available and answer any questions that you may have in order that you can make an informed decision relating to your future financial planning.

I find financial, pensions and inheritance planning difficult to understand, and don’t keep abreast of all the rules and regulations. So I needed an advisor.

How has Gary Barnes helped you?

He helped with all of the above and I now feel that my pension, investments and inheritance plans are set up as best they could be.

Last year has not been the best return but overall since dealing with Gary I have had a better than expected return.

We were looking for advice on how to invest our savings and on our pension planning.

How has Gary Barnes helped you?

They understood our requirements. Both Gary and Kate explained the options available to us and what the differences were for each option giving us a good understanding which allowed us to make an informed decision on which option would meet our goals. They helped us to progress our option and made it hassle free. At all stages of the process they explained the cost of our decisions. It was very important to us that we felt confident to progress with a company who understood our requirements and we felt comfortable with. Gary Barns certainly met these requirements.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We were totally happy with the recommendations and options we discussed and had no issues about moving forward with our investments. The investments were well suited to our circumstances. Th suggestions regarding inheritance planning made good sense and suited our requirements perfectly.

What could they have done better?

Gary and Kate were willing to meet us at anytime, even staying back in the office in order to fit around our availability. They were always available to answer any queries we had.

Initial advice was exactly what I wanted and I am satisfied that the options I have now chosen are based on sound advice. A failure in investments with current supplier, a number of pensions which needed to be brought together, lack of advice and help from current investment company.

Gave clear, professional advice. This was the first time anyone had ever sat down and told us exactly what we had invested in, and what that would mean in 20 years time. He also made us assess where we wanted to be in the next 10-20 years and think properly about how to achieve this.
