I have been a financial adviser since 1989. I started with a home service insurance company, dealing with existing clients, and then moved to a major high street bank, providing relevant pension and investment advice to its customers. In 2003, having gained valuable experience, I joined a national firm of independent financial advisers, specialising in helping employees of public sector or large private sector employers, particularly those who were nearing retirement. As a result, I have clients spread throughout the UK, the majority of whom have dealt with me for many years. Due to the age profile of my clients, most of the work I am involved in is advising on investing for growth or income, and making best use of pension provision. I also engage in helping clients who wish to write wills, by referral to a specialist will writing service. Apart from a reasonable level of technical knowledge, I believe that an key element of providing financial advice is listening to clients and establishing what is really important to them. I am acutely aware that the world of finance and investing can be bewildering, and I aim to explain the various issues in a concise and informative way. Equally important is the ongoing service provided, with every client offered an annual review, usually face-to-face; I find this personal service is appreciated, and I have no doubt that it helps to cement the client relationship. Away from work I enjoy spending time with my family, often spending weekends in the Lake District. In addition, some of my spare time is spent tinkering with classic motorcycles, and I can frequently be found riding them on summer evenings and weekends.
