Thirty years ago when I retired I had savings I wished to invest and, having no expertise in investing I employed an IFA to advise me. Some ten years later I decided to change my IFA and on the advice of a friend I approached Nathan Harris. By then I had inherited a substantial sum and, following discussion of my objectives with Nathan decided to invite him to become my IFA.

Nathan suggested investment platforms which he felt were appropriate to my investment objectives and after discussing these as well as other matters such as my approach to risk he helped me to select one and advised me on the transfer of my portfolio.

Yes, my portfolio has appreciated in line with the level of risk with which I feel comfortable.

What could they have done better?

I feel that the service I receive with regular reviews of the economic outlook and recommendations of switches which demonstrate to me that my portfolio is kept under appraisal is helpful and sufficient to my needs. Nathan's team also keep in touch and are always available if I feel that I need assistance. I have no recommendations for improvements.

Considering and looking at options to finance a property abroad possibly using defined benefit pension and other pensions pre-retirement.

"We" have done very well with the investments which have grown - I didn't know what degree of growth to expect but it has been very good.

Nathan sorted out the two pensions I had, put them into one which gave me a better return. My wife had a frozen pension which Nathan managed to sort out with good return. I’d got to a point where I’d recognised that I would be better off in terms of time and money if I had a professional advisor, rather than trying to do it myself.

Yes far exceeded them. We are in a far better situation because of specific suggestions Nathan went out of his way to make, and are much better protected for the future.

I can’t think of anything. Maybe kept reminding us more of the actions we needed to take, but they sent us everything we needed and did check in.

I need advice over administering my portfolio as I am not able to do this for myself. I had used another IFA but was dissatisfied with their service and Lothbury Pendil/ Nathan Harris were recommended to me.

He took over my portfolio and advised me regarding the platform I should employ. He then kept a watching brief and recommended changes to the investments when he felt these would be to my advantage giving me the reasoning behind his recommendations. Having received my approval he then implemented the changes.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

In the first instance we were looking for someone to help with a mortgage on a new property. Nathan was recommended by a friend. Following on from this I needed advice for a private pension plan to be set up, which again Nathan gave good sound financial advice and the private pension was set up. Recently as I am no 63 I wanted advice on my other various frozen pension funds to make the most of the funds values before I retire again Nathan and his team have set this up for me.

Nathan was very helpful going through the various mortgage options / companies and recommended the final broker we used to finance our new home. Nathan also recommended AVIVA as my private pension company and has supported me by arranging two of my frozen pension funds to be re-invested for (hopefully) a better return in a few years time.

If I am honest I do struggle with my annual tax return which I leave to the last minute every year as I dread completing the same. I'm sure if this was a service the Lothbury Group offered, Nathan could have helped.

Nathan is an excellent listener, in that he hears the message that you are trying to impart and concentrates his efforts on delivering the service that you require, rather than advising on a product that he thinks that you might need. This is in stark contrast to some other financial advisors that I have used.
