About

After completing my post graduate MSc degree in Environmental Science and Protection at Edinburgh University. I worked in Hong Kong for a number of years helping to build the infrastructure for the new airport. After this I moved into finance and in 1997 returned to the UK and began my career as an IFA. My main specialty is advising business owners and contractors how to manage their financial affairs. However, I do also have a broad spectrum of clients from all walks of life ranging in age from their late 20s to over 100! Since becoming an IFA I have always relied on technology to enhance my work and help my clients achieve their financial objectives. Whether it is consolidating their assets, recommending new investment or pension options, or forecasting their future cashflow, I use technology as a powerful tool to simplify and optimise their financial affairs. Many of the people who approach me have multiple pension benefits and a collection of scattered investments. They want a low cost solution that can bring their finances together and manage them efficiently. My role is to assess if this is feasible and to identify the pros and cons of doing so, as well as to propose and implement suitable solutions. In my spare time I have a passion for sailing and dream about sailing around the world. Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen any time soon! My areas of advice: Private Individuals: Investments: ISAs, onshore/offshore bonds, VCTs and collective investments including ethical, sustainable and ESG investments. Pensions and retirement planning: SIPPs, Flexible drawdown and annuities Personal insurances: Life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection. Estate planning (IHT mitigation). The latter may be done in liaison with your solicitor, accountant, or other adviser. Company owners and key employees: Pensions, investments and business protection including key man, shareholder protection, loan protection and associated business trusts. Business exit planning. Trustees: Trust investments, and their duties thereon.
