What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I retired early in 2014 with access to a final salary pension from my previous employer and a pension 'pot' of retirement savings in my then employers pension scheme. We wanted to understand what options were available to make sure that our capital was not only protected but increased over time to supplement our income. Our previous financial adviser died suddenly and James offered his services to support us during the transition period, and beyond, to ensure that our plan was still suitable for us and that outcomes remained on track. A full review of our financial plans is held on a yearly basis.

How has James Todd helped you?

James conducted our yearly review on the telephone this due to the restrictions in place because of the COVID - 19 pandemic. He was well prepared ensuring that the required documentation was sent to us in time to digest it prior to the call. James has taken over our portfolio following the sudden death of our previous adviser. He is the consumate professional, quickly building a rapport with us and familiarisation of our initial requirements (financial goals, attitude to risk etc) thus ensuring a meaningful review. We discussed the changing financial landscape, as a result of global pandemic, accepting that markets would continue to be volatile until the current situation improves. James is an excellent ambassador for his organisation.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The Global pandemic has clearly deeply affected all sectors, including financial services, with the result that our investments have not performed as well as they did pre-pandemic. We accept this given the instability created as a direct consequence of the pandemic. We also understand the volitility/sensitivity of markets and the resultant effect on investments.

What could they have done better?

We don't believe that anything could have been done to improve the outcomes over this last year. We are convinced that our financial plan is still suitable for us and will provide the yield we were used to, pre-pandemic, when the markets recover. We accept the volitility of the markets and are sure that our financial plan continues to match our requirements and reflects our attitude to financial risk.
