What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

As couple starting out life together, we’d both progressed in our careers, our income had increased, and we were thinking seriously about big milestones—buying our first home, getting married, and planning ahead rather than just living month to month. At the same time, we had student loans, workplace pensions we didn’t really understand, and different attitudes to saving and risk that we wanted to align. We realised we were making decisions in isolation, without a clear long-term plan, and were worried about making expensive mistakes—especially with property and investments. We wanted reassurance that we were doing the right things in the right order, and guidance from someone impartial who could help us set shared goals, prioritise properly, and give us confidence about our financial future.

How has Gordon Slocombe helped you?

Gordon helped us by turning what felt like a jumble of good intentions into a clear, joined-up plan. Instead of reacting to decisions as they came up, he helped us step back and look at the bigger picture—what we wanted from our life and to look over the next 5, 10, and 20 years, and how our money can support that. Practically, that started with helping understand where we were: our income, spending, savings, pensions, student loans, and any benefits we got through work. From there, Gordon helped us prioritise—how much to save versus invest, how to balance short-term goals like a wedding with longer-term ones like retirement, and how to make the most of UK allowances such as ISAs and pensions. They’d also help us feel more confident about investing, explaining risk in plain English and building a strategy that suits us as a couple rather than just following headlines or advice from friends. Just as importantly, having an adviser gives us accountability and peace of mind: someone to sense-check decisions, adapt the plan as our lives change, and make sure we stay on track as our careers, income, and priorities evolve.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Gordon has been advising us for over 15 years and continued to be happy with the advice and outcomes over that period

What could they have done better?

Gordon has always given us the time, attention and advice that we need. Whether thats an ad hoc query or annual review. No specific areas for improvement

Gordon:

Thank you very much and I look forward to continuing to work with you in 2026!

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had money to invest for my mother after selling her house , needed something that I could access as and when necessary to pay for care home fees. I am pleased with how the investment has increased in the last two years. I am now at the point will I will need to make regular withdrawals for moms care and Gordon is making the process easy

How has Gordon Slocombe helped you?

Listed to what I wanted and advised approximately. Very empathetic.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, very pleased with how the investment has grown

Gordon:

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Like many people, I had a number of occupational pension schemes and I was looking for advice around the merits of consolidating them and developing a proactive retirement strategy, of which pension income would be one component.

How has Gordon Slocombe helped you?

Gordon reviewed all of my occupational pensions and provided advice around which ones should be maintained and which should be consolidated into a SIPP, which he has established for me on the James Hay (now Nucleus) platform. In addition, my wife and I are developing a wider retirement strategy with Gordon with the aim of establishing income streams to meet our needs in the most tax-efficient manner.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I am not looking to retire for another 18 months, but our finances are in good shape for the future. In addition to my SIPP, Gordon has also set up stocks and shares ISAs with Nucleus, which should provide a tax-free income stream at the relevant time. I feel that with Gordon's support, we should be well-positioned to enjoy our retirement when the time comes, despite the somewhat worrying state of the wider economy.

What could they have done better?

Nothing comes to mind.
