I wanted to transfer pensions that have not been performing well, to a better product and strategy.

How has Conor O'Sullivan helped you?

Conor took time to understand my individual needs and advised on the best approach. Conor is attentive and responsive to my needs and takes time to explain some of the complexities that I've not understood. This has been hugely helpful. The arrangement we have is that I can access ongoing advice and guidance, which is very helpful, particularly where other matters that I'm dealing with overlap and interlink.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

In financial terms it's just too soon to make a judgement on this. I am just into year one with Conor, so to make a call on this would not be appropriate at this early stage. I am very hopeful, however, that in the long-term I will see the returns I need. Aside from this, the relationship is working very well so far and delivering value to me in terms of the expertise that Conor brings to the relationship.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I recently went self-employed (around 12 months ago), I was connected with Conor via my accountant Ben and am so glad about it. I needed help overcoming past anxieties with money and wanted to gain direction for building wealth to ensure financial freedom now and in later life. I initially met with Conor to discuss my circumstances and he was incredibly generous with his time. Speaking for way over an hour, he was incredibly clear about how he could help, the best action to take and how he would ensure he'd create a plan for my goals, not just an off-the-shelf plan anyone could use. One thing I loved was he never applied any pressure and was completely fine with me taking as long as I needed to decide how I wanted to approach each part of the process.

How has Conor O'Sullivan helped you?

Conor has helped me with everything, from new pensions to old ones, planning for retirement at 55, saving a substantial amount as an emergency fund, investing in ISAs and stress-testing my financial situation based on my current income. I own a Creative Agency, and as this is relatively new, he didn't overexaggerate potential earnings and provided detailed advice in terms of building a business for sale. He also recognised my financial anxiety and made a plan to mentor me directly over the coming 12 months to build my confidence around money. I was encouraged to feel positive about my current situation and goals and reassured I have plenty of time to build up my assets and financial security. I also feel much more confident about my spending habits even though we've just started. This is due to Conor being incredibly empathetic and understanding of my ADHD and related impulsivity, I feel safe being able to speak about money habits I've previously shamed myself over and Conor has reassured me that I am not in as bad of a situation as I've led myself to believe.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

100% and even more so. I was amazed by Conor's detailed financial plan and feel incredibly confident about my future and working with Conor for years to come. I would recommend him to anyone looking for help with their financial planning, it feels like such a relief to have someone so professional and knowledgeable in my corner. He also helped me with overcoming my confusion about pensions but did not push for me to take one. After his detailed explanation, I came to my own conclusion that having a pension is an obvious decision. This may seem obvious to most but there's a lot of discourse in the media about why they're not worthwhile. I'm very glad I've had the advice in this particular area!

I decided to retire early and, as a result, I had to review my pension arrangements and look at options for equity release. I needed a good financial adviser to help me with this. Conor was recommended to me by a relative.

We had reached a point in our lives where we knew we needed to consider what we needed to prepare for retirement but also maintain a level of lifestyle that we had achieved so far too but didn't know if this was both possible!!

We have received projections based on how we continue, some what ifs and some ideal scenario work-ups. This enables us to make the right decisions for us. I inherited what was a substantial amount of money for me and wanted advice on how best to invest and use it.

How has Conor O'Sullivan helped you?

He advised me on a variety of possibilities and found different ways of investing ethically. He also manged the investment process and consolidated other savings etc. He listened to what I wanted to do and found things that fitted into that.

The investments are growing well, and I feel comfortable with how everything has gone despite feeling very nervous about the process initially. Conor was always available to talk things through whether face to face, by phone etc and never made me feel I was asking silly questions and didn't rush me into anything. Financial advisors must reassure their clients that they have their best interests at heart. Recent high profile cases have left a feeling that some fund managers are looking after their own interests and advisors should be avoiding these schemes. Most of the public have only small amounts to invest representing hard-earned savings .

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We contacted Conor a few years ago, in advance of my wife and I retiring, in order to get advice on how to proceed with pensions and investments once we had retired. We had heard some awful stories about pension advisors so wanted a good local independent advisor and my colleagues recommended UNBIASED as a good way of finding someone. We were impressed with Conor from the start and have seen no reason to change.

How has Conor O'Sullivan helped you?

Conor provided sound, sensible advice. He did a full review of our assets and advised on those that we should maintain, dispose of or consolidate with investments based on a determination of our agreed level of risk.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, Conor's financial review enabled us to get a much better handle on our financial affairs. Many small accounts that were giving us no benefits or that were draining our resources unnecessarily due to high charges and poor returns were eliminated. Others have now been consolidated elsewhere, at Conor's recommendation and with his assistance, and are now performing in a more sensible and satisfactory way.

What could they have done better?

Difficult to say, but our finances were in a real mess before and they are now much clearer and straightforward.

Conor took time to check our information offering sufficient time during home visits to fully discuss and understand the issues. He made several recommendations relating to personal pension contributions and Stocks & Shares ISA's.

We are now more comfortable with our financial decisions having received expert advice. It is too early to measure the outcome - we can only judge this over a longer term.
