What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
Investing in equities and bonds is not a guessing game. Individuals such as myself, need expertise and research to obtain reasonable gains and comfort that savings will grow in the long term. The CBAM team provides that service and James Kidson represents well the quality of that resource.
How has James Kidston helped you?
He lead me through a detailed but not arduous series of questions, my answers to which enables his team to manage my funds guided by the risk level James' questions determined. His manner is very professional without being too complicated.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
The global financial markets will determine overall how the investments made by CBAM on my behalf could perform. I trust CBAM to stay on top of trends, opportunities and risks to make my savings grow in the long term, at least at a rate that exceeds inflation. That is what I am seeing in the reports I receive, on average.
What could they have done better?
At this time, and after being a client of CBAM for 9 years, I have to say that the level of communications is about right.

I needed advice on appropriate investments for my retirement.
How has James Kidston helped you?
Regular reviews have enabled me to amend my investments as my appetite for risk has changed somewhat over time. They have been important as economic conditions have changed, for example, during the current pandemic.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
I received investment advice in 1997 when I retired from the Police and invested my commutation with Nelson. This has since been changed to Close Brothers and I was contacted by their Financial Advisor and have received advice ever since, my current advisor being James Kidson.
How has James Kidston helped you?
It was recommended that I consolidate most of my investments into a Close Fund and that has been done. The only investment which it was suggested to remain where it was is Janet's Pension Fund which stays with Standard Life Aberdeen.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
In the current circumstances it is impossible to compare the present value of the investments with that which could have been obtained elsewhere. However, the reduction in value is not as much as it could have been and I am confident that the present situation will improve considerably over the next few months.
What could they have done better?
I have no suggestions to make for an improvement in the service.
