My husband uses Richard and Tudor Franklin so when I wanted to consolidate my pensions, I was happy to use Richard.

The returns on my investments haven't performed that well, but obviously you have to take into consideration things that are happening globally and what with covid and Ukraine, investments haven't done well.

I had my annual review with Richard and he took on board my concerns so has revised the port folio to hopefully increase the overall pension pot and reinvested where he seems appropriate.

My wife and myself were considering retirement. We had both inherited money after the death of a parent. We were aware that our existing savings were probably losing value due to inflation outstripping negligible interest rates in bank and building society accounts.

How has Richard Meats helped you?

Richard was very thorough in checking out all of our relevant overall circumstances at that time in our lives. He carefully assessed the level of financial risk we were both comfortable with. We made some restrictions about the kind of financial activities that we did and didn't want our finances to be invested in, and he was very thorough in finding places for us to invest that took account of this.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We made it clear that we had no particular goals for our investments, other than hoping that in the longer term they would hold and hopefully gain in value. We have had a number of annual reviews with Richard, and are very happy with how things are doing.

What could they have done better?

Not as far as we can tell. We only pay attention when Richard tells us a review is approaching. We are more than happy to leave the regular and detailed attention to Richard. We are very confident in hi and Tudor a Franklin's expertise in personal finance matters. We prefer to trust in their expertise as experts on their field.

Receiving no interest on savings in the building society we were in at the time.

He has formed a portfolio of investments that have greatly improved the value of our savings to what it was doing for us just sitting in a building society account and receiving very little interest and no advice with the building society we first placed a lump sum of money.

Due to present on going interest values in general, things could be better but understand that our money will make more for us with the investments we have made with Richard, than it would have in the Building Society where we were receiving almost no interest and we were worried that our investment would be worth less in 10 years than when we invested it.

Consolidated private pensions under one provider having assessed our appetite for risk. Ongoing advice about inheritance tax having first taken out an insurance policy to pay the tax liability should we both die in the next ten years before we can take measures to mitigate it. Provides reassurance that as with most couples if the one who tends to run the investments were to die someone would provide sensible advice to the person left about how to proceed.

Our defined benefit pensions are with the NHS and this has become increasingly complex with the schemes being revised three times in the last 12 years and the new annual limits and lifetime limits impacting significantly. This has become a specialised are of advice and Im not sure how financial advisers who have numerous other issues to keep up to date with can approach this.

Having recently sold my share in the business I had a healthy amount of money I needed to re-invest towards a long term pension plan and financial security for my family, plus I was interested to explore transferring out of my final salary pension from a previous employer that seemed to be offering tempting sums for me to do so!

How has Richard Meats helped you?

Friends of ours recommended Richard and very quickly I realised he was the right adviser for us, he invested a lot of time getting to understand our short, medium and long term plans, our financial experience and risk appetite. Richard left no stone un-turned and made sure we both fully understood the different options available to us and the relevant risk/opportunity. Having explored a number of different options we settled on a blended mix of investment portfolio/EIS/ISA and pensions plus opting to leave our final salary pensions alone. In addition to the investments I had a hefty capital gains tax liability and Richard has worked hard to minimise that and he also attended a meeting with the accountants to make sure they understood his strategy and ensure they dovetail in with my Tax returns.

All the plans are now in place as expected

What could they have done better?

I would perhaps have been good to understand in advance how detailed and involved the process would be, I expected a meeting to agree a number of action then that to be implemented, however in hindsight I can see the value in Richard having a detailed understanding of us and our plans and by doing that he can make the best possible advice.
