What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I have used Tony and Wealth & Tax for many years, having inherited some investments from a parent, and then finding myself managing them badly in the 2007/8 financial crisis.

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

He has helped me to keep my funds in less volatile investments, and to manage their long-term performance so that they retain their value, plus a bit, and make sensible use of ISAs, SIPPs, etc.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

On the whole, yes. Obviously the last few years have been challenging for everyone, but over the long term my 'retain value, plus a bit' goal has been achieved.

What could they have done better?

The investment platforms they have used tend to produce rather over-whelming quantities of paper reporting, while at the same time still managing to make it quite hard work for the non-professional investor to keep an eye on performance - quanitity of information at the cost of simple clarity,

How has Tony Byrne helped you since your last review?

We've had the regular annual financial review, which really focused on the risk/return level, given the difficult market. Our situation has been stable during the year to the last review, so there have been little actions needed. Our focus is on capital growth of our investments, and the market conditions mean this has been under expectation. Tony promptly addressed questions regarding variations in gains between the various pension pots in our investment; unfortunately the outcome was not in our favour. Tony checked that we have essential protections in place - Wills, Power of Attorney etc. and these are all done, with no changes expected soon.

I was running a private company specialising in electrical installation and servicing and due to time constraints needed someone to deal with my personal finances.

Tony reviewed our savings and investments and discussed our longterm objectives he then advised on achievable options, he has continued to manage our investments, assisted us in updating our wills and LPA's and continued to assist us in maximising our retirement portfolio.

We have been very happy with the efforts Tony has put in to consolidate our portfolio and manage it for a number of years which has resulted in a portfolio growth rate which would have been unlikely without professional management. .

My mum got Tony as a Financial Advisor and she suggested I needed a pension. Tony arranged my first private pension in my early 20’s

He has made me financially independent with a pension and savings. I can now choose when to retire. Also when I was made redundant from my previous role of 22 years I didn’t worry about how I’d manage so I could focus on getting the job I wanted.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I needed advice on my pension schemes and a friend recommended Tony’s firm

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

He has helped me combine my smaller pensions and transferred most of my group company pension into one. He looks after the growth and management of the funds as I have no such expertise. He also arranged for protection of my estate and set up trusts for my daughter in case of my death. It’s a great relief for me to know my family is provided for and my daughters inheritance is protected.

Not directly yet as I’m still working and alive! But I feel like I can relax now that my pension is being looked after properly and my daughter’s financial future is secure.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I met Tony over 25 years ago when I was self-employed. His Company did my annual accounts. He said that he could save me paying enough tax to pay his invoice. And he did! Subsequently he became my financial adviser.

He's managed our investments to provide income in retirement whilst (until very recently) maintaining our capital.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was looking at the potential of retiring as early as possible, 55 preferably, and wanted to understand the feasibility of that given my pension position at the time.

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

From the initial meeting, and from being a client, Tony has clearly outlined the possibilities available to me taking into consideration my personal circumstances and long term view. I've mostly concentrated on pensions because of my personal position, but there has been discussions, plans and advice on all financial aspects, including trusts, tax planning, wills and LPAs. This continues to happen such that I can understand decisions within a whole-of-life cashflow position and look at a variety of what-if scenarios before making any decisions. I've never had a problem arranging for financial advice when needed, nor making changes as circumstances evolve. Tony has been able to show me what is possible to do with my pension money and impact that choices might have. It's all been extremely useful.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes: Tony was able to show me that I could comfortably retire early without impacting my standard of living. He was able to do so whilst also showing me how to take advantage of current legislation to best provide for my wife in case of my early death.

What could they have done better?

Nothing really: within the interactions I've had with Tony things have gone well and smoothly. Any actions from a meeting are followed up promptly.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Approaching retirement age and pensions were available to be transferred or taken. I needed to understand the best way of utilising multiple pension schemes that had accumulated during working lifetime.

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

I was able to to consolidate all my pensions into a flexible drawdown which I was able to to start taking at a time of my choosing. This gives me flexibility to return to work if I choose and reduce/stop my drawdown or continue with my retirement.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The outcome is completely what I hoped for as I have a very tax efficient way of drawing money and enough pension available to continue my retirement.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

20 years ago I was made redundant and I received a good redundancy package. I was too young to retire so I decided to get professional advice to invest my money to get the best return until I retired. I also had some money invested in a Building society.

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

Since contacting Wealth and Tax Management 20 years ago, I believe Tony has always given me good and sound advice on my investments. I have seen my investments grow at a better rate than that of Building societies or banks. There have been ups and downs in the markets but Tony has taught me to ride this as in the long run, the markets usually recover.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I first approached Tony for help on pensions. It was at the time when you could opt out of state pensions into other things. At that time my partner and I had a mixture of public and private pensions and could not understand where our best interests lay. We almost certainly were not making the most of what pensions we had or could have.

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

Tony helped us through the initial pension issues and offered a straightforward and transparent approach to financial planning that was very attractive and we have stayed with him for many years as a result. His approach is based around our needs as our children grew up and in preparation for retirement.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Our money has more than kept pace with inflation and we are in a good position for retirement. Tony has periodically advised changes to our financial approach in line with our needs, our level of risk and the availability of financial products. He has always been responsive to our questions and any concerns that we might have and the resulting changes have refreshed our holdings.

What could they have done better?

The sometimes complex nature of the information produced by financial companies where investments are held means at times that the underlying position is not always apparent. Review meetings with Tony always clear this up but some easier form of dashboard from W&TM might also be helpful.

I was looking for someone to advise on the best way to invest an inheritance to provide funding in retirement and for future inheritance planning.

We have been with Tony for several years now. The reasons for looking originally were that we had disposable income to invest and we sought to better manage our investments and pensions for growth.

How has Tony Byrne helped you?

Tony has come to know our approach and attitude to risk and has always guided us on where to invest and on ensuring wealth growth and protection for the family. He continues to monitor our portfolios, provides cash forecasts and in the not too distant future we will have him help us manage the start of our pension drawdown.

Broadly, yes. We have a well balanced and diversified pension management in place, together with some investments that combine well with other assets that we have managed ourselves outside of our financial adviser discussions (although our financial adviser is well informed of these for our overall wealth management approach).

We have had help and guidance on a number of topics that has provided a complete wealth management service for us. I cannot think of any additional aspect that has not been discussed.
