What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Ross has been helping me with financial planning for a number of years. When I initially contacted Ross I wanted advice on how best to invest my savings. Ross helped me with that as well as secure a fantastic mortgage offer. More recently I have approached Ross for tax planning advice regarding my pension.

I have always found Ross to be very approachable and professional to deal with. He is really skilled at explaining what is often complex financial information in a way that is easy to understand. With interest rates rising, and our current fixed rate mortgage deal due to expire, we approached Ross for advice on the next best steps to secure the best deal.

How has Ross Lacey helped you?

Ross and his team reviewed our current circumstances and then went out to the market to identify the best options for us moving forward. This included locking in a deal now to protect us from further interest rate rises before our current deal expires in April 2024. Equally, if interest rates reduce in the meantime he will ensure we benefit from these too. Ross went through the pros and cons for each option available to us and we have every confidence he will keep a close eye on things until our re-mortgage is due.

I had multiple pensions from various employees and wanted to know if amalgamating these would be beneficial. I had also reached an age where I was curious to understand at what point exactly I could retire with enough money to fulfill my needs.

He advised which pensions could be rolled in together to maximise a return once I reached retirement. Discussions around my estate and what could happen over the coming years took place and a plan was devised by Ross to confirm at what point in my career I would reach this plan and subsequently retire comfortably.

My investments have increased somewhat, not by what I was expecting, but that is more to do with the economic situation in a lot of the western world, which in turn has affected many investment portfolios. He is engaging and knowledgeable about a large number of ways in which to prepare for retirement. We first contacted Ross to review our finances after my husband received a terminal diagnosis. Ross understood our difficult situation and then, with empathy and consideration, took time to understand and talk us through our priorities and options. We were recommended Ross by a family friend. Ross was very helpful in guiding us through the process as first time buyers. Options and requirements were explained and he was adept at explaining what the pros and cons of various items were, as well as offering his own personal opinion whilst respecting your choice as a client. We had initially secured a 2 year fixed, at little hassle thanks to Ross and the team, but the interest rate mayhem in 2022 saw us want to switch to a 5 year. Ross and Kyrie were able to secure a new 5 year fixed within one day and acted very quickly to ensure we could achieve a reasonable rate. The product secured was withdrawn the following day, and we incurred no extra charge for this. Ross and the team were adept at keeping up to speed with the process and always reached out to see how things were progressing as well. Now a happy home owner since March '23, I would highly recommend Ross and the team to anyone looking for an advisor.

There are a lot of horror stories out there about untrustworthy or rogue financial advisors so I researched a lot, looked at independent reviews before going to Ross.

I needed to remortgage and also wanted to discuss my other financial circumstances at the same time

How has Ross Lacey helped you?

Ross was excellent in all areas. He spent a lot of time trying to get to know me and my goals, asking lots of pertinent questions. Ross then discussed some life planing with me around savings and pensions and I used him as a soundboard for different options that I was considering. Ultimately Ross left me understanding all the options in detail and helped me to come to my own decision. Ross also took the time to seek out the best possible mortgage deal for my remortgage and secured us a better rate than expected (which meant having to pay off a tiny bit extra of our current mortgage upon switching). Furthermore he was also able to recommend a more than satisfactory solicitor to assist with that side of the process.

I first approached Ross for mortgage advice and he correctly put me in touch with one of his professional contacts to deal with what was a relatively complex / not straightforward re-mortgage process which completed satisfactorily. My second reason for contacting Ross was to discuss a pension related query which arose through my employers proposing a potential tax saving without providing adequate information including pros and cons. Having obtained Ross's input I was able explore the proposal further through the insurers administering the company pension scheme and HMRC.

See the above comments. Essentially, I now have a way forward in connection with the re-mortgage process and the complex pension issue with potential to achieve savings on my tax obligations with HMRC's blessing.

I had a pension set up by another financial adviser some years ago, which was not being managed at all, so I had no idea if my fund was still appropriate for me and whether it was on track to provide for my future. I also had some cash ISAs which were no longer providing any interest, and therefore I wanted to seek a better place to invest my money.

How has Ross Lacey helped you?

After several face to face consultations, Ross moved my pension fund to a different provider and set up a stocks and shares ISA for me, which I intend to keep investing in. He has taken steps to diversify my portfolio and manage my risk appetite accordingly (which has fluctuated quite a lot over the past year or so). He always explains everything in a logical, calm manner, so that I can understand things clearly. As well as making investment decisions for me as an individual, he is also helping both me and my husband plan for our future. We meet a couple of times a year to discuss our financial goals, and Ross builds this into a financial plan, so we can see what our future retirement years might look like. This has been an extremely helpful and positive experience, and means that, not only can we look forward to retirement with greater clarity and knowledge about our finances, we also have time to make adjustments if necessary to ensure we will have enough provision for the future.

It is still early days with regards to the actual investments and respective performance, but I feel I am in safe hands with Ross. Ross visited me at home, he went through my pension paperwork and made explanations/clarifications which helped me to understand the situation better. He made contact with pension company on my behalf and then ascertained procedure which I need to follow in order to access my pension funds. I had made some wrongful assumptions about my pension so his expertise on the subject was very helpful. The whole process was very constructive for me; I have very limited knowledge about pensions and Ross's clarifications/explanations and his contact with pension company was of great value to me.

I am approaching retirement age and I had a number of pensions that I wanted to consolidate prior to actually retiring.

How has Ross Lacey helped you?

Ross was fantastic in interpreting my perceived goals, giving clear advice along the way and always open and honest about the risks, benefits and rewards of any given projection. He guided me through the pension consolidation process painlessly and the Pension pot tax free cash lump sum we planned for arrived safely and within the projected timescale.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My husband recently passed away. As he took care of the financial side of things I thought it best to seek professional advice regarding my affairs. I heard about Ross through a friend.

How has Ross Lacey helped you?

Ross has helped me to understand my current financial position and is supporting me with future financial planning now I am in retirement. He has given me an honest view of where I am and what I am able to spend going forward. As part of this he has made investment recommendations in terms of my inherited pension scheme and the investing of other cash I hold in ISAs and Unit Trusts. Being a pensioner he has worked with me to identify the right level of investment risk to take, as well as making recommendations on how to use my money in the right way to reduce tax implications for myself, and in the future, for my children. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was looking for some advice in relation to longer term / retirement financial planning as my own budgeting is currently more focused on short to medium term goals

How has Ross Lacey helped you?

Ross kindly explained various options which were available to me outside of my existing pension scheme to ensure I was able to save for retirement in the most tax efficient way possible in the future. Moreover, we also discussed insurance / protection as well as mortgages where Ross was able to offer a great deal of insight which I hadn’t been aware of prior to the meeting

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I was unsure as to whether I needed an IFA but thought there was no harm in speaking with an expert to assess how it might help me. Towards the end of our meeting, Ross was honest enough to say that whilst he would like to work together, he didn’t feel that he could add as much value to me for now as he’d like to but felt he could do so in a few years’ time. He suggested reconnecting in 2/3 years when we are looking at mortgages for our next home. His honesty here reinforced his integrity to me and gave me great confidence that he would be the right partner at the right time

Initially it was to go through finances/investments, however after having the first phone call Ross was honest in saying that it may not benefit me to pay for financial advice as I was already on the right track.

Ross mentioned that although it may not be worth paying for financial advice, he can look into my current insurances to make sure I am adequately covered for my current cirumstances. I was pleased he brought this up. It was highlighted that there were some much better options and better prices, and he was excellent at providing all the information and explaining things I wasn't previously aware of and has helped get some much better overall cover. Ross was always happy to answer questions via email or phone call as much as I needed. Nothing was too much trouble, so I will definitely be going to him in the future. I feel we've covered everything thoroughly and nothing has been rushed.

In the beginning I wasn't even thinking about insurances so I'm very happy that it was brough to my attention.

This was my first experience using a financial advisor so I have nothing to compare to, but I really don't think anything could have been done better.
