I had a favourable defined benefit pension pot which I wanted to work for me in a much more flexible manner than opting to crystallise my pot and gain year on year increases, but without any real scope to draw down initially, a lump sum to dispense of certain obligations, notably my mortgage. I could have sacrificed a commutation rate of 1:9 which is far from appealing

After proper discussion over a mini series of meetings, Tony was able to professionally vindicate my wishes to opt out of my superann scheme, gaining control of my major asset, and providing the safeguard that if something untimely happened to me, my two adult children would be well provided for.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Thus far. I have drawn a handsome tax free sum… there were prolonged delays with my superann provider (not Tony’s fault by any means) in sanctioning the transfer exposing me to a few quid beyond budget so to speak. Since investing my main pot, I have experienced some turbulence in the markets, thanks to Trussonomics in part, but my pot value is close to reinstatement at the time of writing. I draw comfort from knowing that when I need to drawdown from my pot, in a tax efficient manner, I can do so.

Coming up to retirement and having worked within the financial service industry myself for 25+ years recognised I needed specialist financial advice to enable me to achieve my goals of moving my pension pots including a final salary scheme into a SIPP for drawdown purposes.

How has Tony Thomas helped you?

Tony was able to help me achieve my goals by having the necessary qualifications and experience to be able to help me work through this complicated area, but not before thoroughly assessing my financial situation, my attitude to risk and my understanding of the pro's and con's of my intended course of action and satisfying himself that this was indeed the right thing for me to be doing in light of my circumstances.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. My pensions have all been transferred and are held within a SIPP in anticipation of me drawing down on the funds moving through retirement, within an investment strategy agreed between us based on my needs and risk profile. In addition, Tony is on hand to review my goals and objectives moving forward and of course keep an eye on the fund/s to ensure there ongoing suitability.

What could they have done better?

The amount of time it took to achieve this objective could have been quicker. The process from start to completion took 7 months which I found frustrating, but this was down to my various pension scheme providers differing requirements and a lack of qualified personnel to be able to deliver the transfers in a timely manner, rather than shortcomings from Tony and his service.

Yes, throughout the process (Initial drawdown) and continual advice Tony has supplied verbally and electronically all the information I need and has answered all the questions I have thrown at him. His advice has always been spot on and I have total confidence that Tony will continue to deliver what's best for me going forward.

To my understanding nothing, Tony always follows up with updates and discusses my options and his recommendations, I really don't think he could do any more for me.

Due to the Corona virus pandemic the winding up of my husband;s estate has taken longer than usual and I had viewed this year as a year of consolidation but this was not to be. We all have to wait to see what happens. Tony as ever is always available when I need advice.

I had 3 pensions of varying size, 2 of which were defined benefit. Plus I wanted to semi-retire at 55. I was very unsure how to go about achieving my aspirations and still ensure I was financially secure in my old age.

How has Tony Thomas helped you?

Tony did a very thorough analysis of my circumstances, my various pension pots and my aims. He was very experienced and knowledgeable but also attentive and extremely positive and easy to work with. He came up with a solution that gave me what I was hoping for but always with one eye on his obligations to advise me regarding cover for the whole of my retirement.

Tony has been our financial advisor for over 10 years. Over the past 15 months we have been worried about the negative affect of the virus on my SIPPS pension pot. Tony immediately responded to my email and we arranged a Zoom meeting where he reassured us and suggested we leave things alone as the investments would inevitably grow again. From a low in April 2020, they have grown by approx 25% to date and we are glad we listened to Tony and took his advice. He has also been very helpful with our inheritance planning.

I decided to transfer my deferred pension and was looking for a trustworthy advisor to help me with all the legalities. Well, from our initial contact I knew I had made the right choice, Tony's wealth of knowledge and experience and patience whilst I was asking hundreds of questions was excellent and exactly what I was looking for.
