What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Over 15 years ago I needed help and advice on consolidating numerous individual pension pots to provide for my husband and my future security.

How has John Pickles helped you?

John has been consistently helpful since sorting out my original pension pot. He has advised on investments, drawdowns to pay off mortgages, long term care planning for my husband, and altering investments in relation to my changing risk profile. In addition he has taken on my son and helped him get some financial stability.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, I am very happy with the outcomes of John’s advice.

What could they have done better?

I have depended on John for support and advice through some quite difficult circumstances which I could not have dealt with, without him. It is hard to imagine how he could have done better.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had been with a mortgage lender for over a decade when it was coming to the end of term. The fixed agreement came to an end and then went to variable. My mortgage lender was unable to help with a new option with the reduction of their products due to the economic climate and suggested I try the open market. Due to age I made the decision to take out al life time mortgage, with the help on my financial advisor John Pickles, whom was recommended to me.

How has John Pickles helped you?

John was very understanding of my situation, and was concerned that I should make the right choices in considering the Lifetime mortgage. He took a great deal of time to explain how the Lifetime mortgage proceeded, and we looked at many ways to try to get the best solution financially. He was extremely concerned when we had a major setback and came up with a solution that was challenging, and was the only way forward to have security and not take too many risks in today's volatile climate of housing, buying and selling. John has helped us ensure that we have made the right move for the next stage of our life.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

While the situation was challenging through the unprecedented year that I have had, John has helped navigate this to the desired outcome. Through his encouragement and calmness we have managed to progress through the year in a positive way although at times it was quite uncertain.

What could they have done better?

I felt that the client service was very good with follow up of the important documents which are associated with a Lifetime Mortgage, There was very little that could have been done better, however I was also fortunate to also have family for support at this time. I did feel that when the legal side took place, one was more alone to make sure all went smoothly.

You are right: it was a tricky situation complicated by differences of opinion between the legal departments of the outgoing and the incoming product provider, the latter of which would not budge. Fortunately, I was able to identify a second equally well-suited provider into which the transfer was eventually made. Their legal department was not so pedantic. Once I have started a task I tend never to give up until it has been satisfactorily completed. Thankfully that attitude has paid off again. I think that the two big financial decisions most people make during their lives relate to buying a home with all that entails, and then later on, setting aside enough money in the form of pension plans to ensure that when they eventually stop work they can look forward to a comfortable retirement. As far as the second one goes we find that often people have accumulated a number of different pension plans over the years including ones they started, and ones from various employers, and they'd prefer to have everything in one place. Dear Stephen Thank you for the review you have given me on Vouchedfor, which I really appreciate. It was a long time ago that we first met when you required investment advice on a trust fund. At the time you wore two "hats" one as the trustee, the other as a beneficiary of the trust. In due course you received a distribution from that trust, then required ongoing investment advice on what to do with the inheritance you had received, which I have been providing since then. Over the years we've had a number of meetings over the years to discuss progress, but also about all sorts of other things. We've been on the same wavelength on most of the things we've covered. I really do believe that the two of us could sort out plenty of the situations that our politicians seem to find difficult if we put our minds to it! My wife's inheritance was managed by Rawlinson and Hunter and with the changes to trust declarations, a trust was dissolved and John Pickles was recommended to provide continuing advice on the inherited investment, which advice we gladly requested.

John Pickles has provided financial advice and investment movement on portfolios of investment, movement from individual international funds to investment platforms, beneficial use of ISA funds, movement to minimise Capital Gains Tax, advice on pension investment on retirement with three pension plans, and indication of potential future inheritance planning.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

With the inevitable rider that investments might reduce in value as well as increase, the value of investments has increased continuously under John Pickle's guidance, and the status of both I and my wife from full time employment to retired, considerate and sound pension investment advice was provided.

What advice John Pickles has been contracted to give has been timely and absolutely satisfactory. John has always gone the additional mile and provided recommendations where he considers further advice might be beneficial, for instance inheritance planning, and it is now up to my wife and I to decide on whether to take this further or not.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We wished to plan for the future and contribute to pensions, while investing available capital in safe but growing funds. We also wished to plan our retirement, semi-retirement, emptying our nest as children leave.

John had us draw up lists of our requirements and expectations. He had us complete surveys on risks and rewards. We also went through the tasks of what we actually did spend our income upon. Over the years he has reviewed our status with us, as well as expectations. He has shown us options, and advised.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We are drawing down from our investments and pensions, and seem to be living within our means while our portfolio inn recent years has neeted a gain in advance of inflation after our withdrawals, so yes.

My finances were complicated as I lived in the Middle East for much of my working life, employed by an American foundation. I needed to rationalise my funds in preparation for my retirement

John Pickles helped me to select investment managers, supporting me in regular meetings so that he and they could determine my needs. On my return from working in the Middle East, as my employment by a US Foundation came to an end, John advised me on pensions and eventually on setting up an annuity, and ensured I was making the best use of PEPs and ISAs. He also introduced me to some excellent accountants. When I had a major stroke, he worked with my sister to keep on top of my affairs until I was ready to resume control. In regular meetings, he checks to make sure that I have the right income and that this is sustainable.

Yes, I feel very reassured that I have the regular income that I need and that my money is invested in a way to ensure that in future years. John and the investment managers are always very responsive to any request if I need extra funds.

Approaching 60 I realised I had a considerable number of pension pots and needed advice about how to rationalise them to secure growth to provide a tax free lump sum sufficient to pay off an interest only mortgage at 70 and to provide funds for my retirement. I also needed advice on appropriate investment vehicles for funds released from property sales.

Dear Steph Many thanks for taking the trouble to give this positive review! It is interesting to look back to see what has actually been achieved so far. From the date in which the investment was made (26 March 2011) to today's date (13 December 2021) it has achieved a compound growth rate of 8.97% per annum. And that is after all charges and costs. It is miles ahead of inflation over that period. At that growth rate money doubles every 8 years and 25 days. I do think that if we had taken more risk with it, the growth rate might have been even better, but if the risk taken had not paid off it would have been worse. It is always a matter of striking a balance, particularly with a pension fund, of course. We can always adjust the level of risk of course. Let me know if you'd like to discuss that.
