As a couple we manage our own investments and pensions, and wanted an adviser prepared to offer advice on demand both on financial planning for retirement and for restructuring an ISA that had started to sprawl over the years.

How has Michael Blosse helped you?

Michael conducted a thorough review of our investments, pensions, outgoings and future plans and was able to provide a model planning how we'd use all those post retirement in a range of scenarios. He was happy to adjust and provide various iterations of the plan. With the ISA, Michael took a brief on what we were looking for and provided a clear set of recommendations for substantial changes to the portfolio, with clear explanations as to why. He was also able to adjust those recommendations to allow for our preferences

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I'm very happy with the overall results and outcomes. I've been able to make important changes to our investments with the reassurance that they are based on professional insights and recommendations. And we've a financial plan that gives us some peace of mind for the future.

What could they have done better?

I'm happy with all the service I received. Financial planning is in some ways quite generic, making necessary assumptions about standard rates of inflation and investment growth. In the last 12 months, inflation has way exceeded the norm and growth is erratic. So additional stress testing of plans could prove necessary in the future.

We were unhappy with our previous adviser following loss of value of our SIPP and other investments over the turbulent recent times, and their takeover by a national company that had higher charges and what felt like a "one size fits all" approach.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

In my forties, as a moderately successful scientist in the public sector, I and my family enjoyed a good life and were not much troubled by money. In my early fifties government privatisation precipitated me into becoming a consultant in the private sector, which doubled my income, but reduced income security. For the first time I had excess money in the bank and an anxiety about who would feed my family in the future if people stopped hiring me. Fortunately, it did not become a problem, but it prompted me to think about investments. Enter Garry Haywood in the mid-1990s and Michael Blosse five years ago. We have the occasional meeting but mainly communicate by email, which works fine. They take their fees and my guide then and now is, is their performance for us better than we could achieve on our own? The answer was and remains “yes”. Now, approaching our dotage, one of our concerns is how to manage our affairs as our physical and mental faculties wane. Whilst we can, we will continue to manage our affairs, but I take comfort that there has never been even a hint that Gary, or his colleague, Michael Blosse, are not to be entirely trusted. My advice is that if you are clever enough and skilled enough, and have the time required to be your own financial expert, then do it. But if not, you are unlikely to find better support than from Globe IFA.

He then discussed issues such as risk/reward on investments, income or capital growth, tax, my state pension, SIPP, ISA and Shares portfolio, inheritance, capital gains etc. Personal plans or wishes, both short and long term, were also discussed. He drew up a plan that offered a good balance of risk vs reward as well as flexibility.

The plan has exceeded my expectations in terms of ROI and has been higher than the market benchmark. Income drawdown has comfortably matched and exceeded my general and capital expenditures, coupled with flexibility in monthly drawdown levels and source. Michael also reviews the plan, market situation and personal requirements regularly, recommending adjustments in the plan where appropriate. Michael is the third financial adviser we have had at Globe IFA - he took over from our previous adviser when she retired. Globe was recommended to us by a long-term adviser who worked for another company on his retirement but we have been very happy with all the advisers at Globe IFA including James Male who helped us remortgage our property.

How has Michael Blosse helped you?

Michael Blosse has been instrumental in keeping our stocks and shares ISA's up to date and invested wisely to maximize profits and minimize our risks. He has helped both myself and my wife in this respect and ensured our ISA's continue to grow even during turbulent economic times. Michael was also very supportive recently when both our bank accounts and credit cards were hacked in a recent moile phone came and ensured my personal ISA portfolio was made safe when it was discovered attempts had been made to hack this as well.

I believe our expectations for both our portfolios have been exceeded especially at a volatile time when the more likely scenario would be to see our investments going down. Michael also makes ethical investments and chooses the stocks and shares to invest in wisely and with a very strong knowledge of the market.

Michael communicates with us regularly but not more than necessary. He is very willing to offer advice and answer questions if you have them about financial matters that may go beyond his original brief. I do feel that if I need financial then I can feel totally confident that Michael will give me informed and constructive answers. You can't really ask for better than that. Michael is also a financial adviser to my brother.

Michael has looked after several members of my family in the past, and in this respect came highly recommended. This was at a time when I was in need of sound financial advice as to how best to plan for my future retirement in the short to medium term. My personal finances were very much 'up in the air' having made a couple of poor financial decisions regarding investments. Yes, so far things have gone along very well, even considering the volatile nature of current markets due to covid 19. I have always felt that Michael has been in 'my corner', and even when a further investment was not handled particularly well by a third party, he was able to quickly step in and sort out the issue on my behalf.

What could they have done better?

I'm not sure there is much more that could be done better. Having had a couple of bad/poor experiences in the past with Financial Advisers, Globe and Michael in particular have restored my faith in financial services. Life, and finances in particular are all about Trust and Risk and to find a professional company who can help with those two tricky aspects is very valuable indeed.
