What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was in a position where I thought that my main Pension provision was sufficient but wasn’t certain as to how long it would last at my current withdrawal rate . I also wanted to talk through my very elderly mothers care costs and providing for my daughter in a tax efficient way

How has Andrew Connolly helped you?

Andrew has helped clarify my financial health situation in an objective and easily understood way by Providing cash flows with a number of scenarios . He also gave Pragmatic advice as to whether to change provider or leave where it was . Now appointed he liaises with the provider and explains any tax implications to me in an easy to understand fashion . He has a nice sense of humour , is approachable , authentic and a seasoned professional , providing me with the facts on which I can make decisions. There is absolutely no hard selling technique which I appreciate . This month , as my fixed mortgage expired , he also referred me to their mortgage colleague who likewise met me very quickly and organised a mortgage which will cost me a lot less than I had anticipated

Yes . My objectives were . 1) Is my main money in the right fund , according to my appetite for risk ? 2) will it last subject to my early retirement ambitions ?

Approaching retirement, I was concerned that I had 5 separate pension schemes, and needed advice re: the best course of action.

How has Andrew Connolly helped you?

He advised me to consolidate 4 separate pensions into a new policy with Met-Life. I decided to continue with an employer's final salary scheme with the Horserace Tote Board, rather than accept a lump sum transfer of funds into the consolidated Met-Life policy.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. However the advice received was prior to the government's major decision to introduce drawdown options. Had I been aware of the changes in the pipeline I might have opted to stay with my original pension providers.

What could they have done better?

I still worry about "putting all my eggs in one basket".

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I have known Andrew for years in my capacity as a practising chartered accountant and he was always very helpful when Clients asked me difficult questions about their pensions or about their investments. He always came back to me with an answer. It was logical to ask him to be our financial advisor when I retired and needed investment advice.

How has Andrew Connolly helped you?

Firstly he looked at my insurance policies and told me which ones were worth keeping. He then looked at our investments and what was the best and most tax efficient way of investing for our future and for our family as a whole. He also comes to our home annually to discuss what has happened with our investments and what would be the best thing to do for the coming year.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Generally yes bearing in mind that investments can go down as well as up. Initially they went down due to the downturn in world stock markets and the pandemic but they seem fine now. We also appreciate the fact that we know he is reviewing them constantly and we like his annual visits to discuss them.

What could they have done better?

It might be helpful to have a more clear time frame for following up on what we have agreed to put in place after his annual visit.

Andrew had been advising my father and step-mother. In his will my father had established a discretionary will trust and a life interest trust, and Andrew advised and administered the investments involved.

How has Andrew Connolly helped you?

Andrew researched and suggested suitable investments for the Trusts' needs and aspirations. There would be annual trustees' meetings at which those investments would be reviewed. But changes could be made, if circumstances demanded, at any time during the year. Andrew was always thoroughly prepared, having undertaken a great deal of research.

Also, we needed advice on how best to plan for retirement and general personal financial planning. Andrew advised comprehensively and in ways that were easy to understand.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

As a Globe IFA client for many years original advice was mortgage related then Pension and Investment in retirement. More recently investment for relative in residential care.

He ensures any information is reasoned and explained taking both time and effort to simplify any complicated financial ‘jargon’ making it more understandable. He has been happy to arrange appointments at our home which is convenient and promply follows up any emails and answer any questions raised. Andrew’s support, expert knowledge and advice are invaluable.

On retirement pension planning - yes Investment process currently ongoing.

Coming up to retirement age so needed to sort best options re private pensions and overall investments alongside them.

Gave me best option advice and helped me complete the relevant paperwork.

Yes in the main still waiting for last pension to come through from provider.

Nothing much, I just wish these things could be done quicker but rules and bureaucracy.

Andrew suggested a suitable investment strategy for a discretionary will trust which needed to generate growth, and for a life interest trust which needed to generate both income and growth in a balanced and fair way.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Having been self-employed, and my partner having been a client of James Male for many years, he recommended James to me. When James moved to mortgages, he in turn recommended Andrew to me.

How has Andrew Connolly helped you?

I required pensions advice, and his expertise on investments. Being absolutely hopeless with the latter, and having an inate fear of the Stock Market, Andrew was of invaluable help. His calm and efficient delivery, in words that even I could understand, were a great help to me in making a financial decision.

Yes. In fact, Andrew is currently sorting out for me a new project, and is being assisted by James.

Initially it was to enlist help in managing my pensions. Since then my investments have grown significantly and their management required advice and guidance.

How has Andrew Connolly helped you?

Andrew took stock of my many different pension schemes and consolidated where possible into a SSIP. He was key in my choice of investment houses which met my risk/reward criteria. He regularly reviews the situation.
