What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was about to retire, and also inherit from my parents, and my investments were either non existent or messy. I wanted to simplify and put my money into something safe and steady, allowing me to splurge occasional on a high risk investment (somewhere else) or spend on a self indulgent wildlife project. However, the tidying up aspect, coupled with tax efficiency, was what drove me.

He has helped rationalise my investments, moved them into the most tax efficient vouchers with honesty, provided a simple reporting system for my accountants, and given me the confidence to enjoy my retirement. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We got tired of trying to keep an eye on all our different investments, keeping in touch with ever-changing government tax rules and breaks, the various ways of calculating income etc. We wanted a safe and steady way to grow our money which would compliment our other assets e.g. house, land, etc And simplicity in tax reporting. We were just beginning to think about inheritance planning. And Sian had recently received some money as part of an inheritance, so this needed a home.

How has Jonathan Hunt helped you?

Jonathan has helped by consolidating a large part of our investments (we have both kept a bit aside where we were intrigued by a different style of investment), and made sure that these investments were optimised to take advantage of government tax breaks, etc. He has made it very simple to view our investments, to generate reports and the investments have performed well. He has assisted in advising on a trust for the girls. Jonathan is beginning to speak to our children, to introduce the concept of long term investments to them.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, we have. Our investments are very much simplified for us, whilst still make a decent return. The bonus is that our investments are ESG, which is an important consideration for us both.

What could they have done better?

Perhaps, perhaps not. There are riskier ways of investing, but we like the way things are organised here - a healthy return over time, in investments that are socially and environmentally sound, and generally making the most of tax breaks.

Advice has always been effective, but sometimes information is a bit repetitive or we go over ground with which we are already familiar. We consider the fees to be a little on the high side but we accept them as the advice provided is always thorough and appropriate, and the quality of service we receive from Jonathan and his colleagues is excellent

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I wasn't comfortable that my pension provider (Aegon) could provide a personal service to meet my drawdown aspirations. They never made contact as to how I might want to draw upon the funds in my pension, instead making the assumption that I would just take an annuity. In addition, their messaging on drawdown opportunities was confusing and appeared to show a lack of understanding of how it would be managed.

Change in job roll resulted in higher earnings package that needed the advice of a financial controller. Jonathan was introduced to me by a friend who was also a work colleague.

I was first introduced to Jonathan Hunt of Expert Wealth Management over 12 years ago by a colleague who was an existing client of EWM. As a senior executive of a PLC company my renumeration had increased considerably with a comprehensive package of salary, bonuses and a company share option scheme and I was in serious need of some financial advice. I felt immediately at ease with Jonathan on our first meeting. Over the period of time I have dealt with EWM I have always felt that I have received first class investment. Tax and pension advice. We had many questions as we considered our future. Are we making the best use our money? Will we have a comfortable retirement? What will it mean if we fancy a bit of luxury or need money to cover an emergency? We were not financial experts so we needed a specialist to answer these questions.
