I was considering reducing my hours at work and I needed to know whether this would be financially possible for me. I also needed advice on my pension situation as I would be retiring in a few years time.
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
He and his predecessor, Ken, have patiently and clearly explained matters to me on many occasions and have provided advice, reassurance and set up investments which meet my needs and match my levels of risk.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Broadly, yes. Obviously, the pandemic affected the financial world, but overall, the progress and outcomes have been positive
What could they have done better?
I’m not sure that I have enough financial expertise to comment on this. Certainly, in their personal dealings with me, they have been excellent.

Nick has helped me to monitor fund performance and switch between different pension funds. 3. He has done some initial work with us on understanding the different ways to drawdown pensions. 4. Covid was a difficult time for financial advisers as the financial markets performed terribly for a 2 year period. It's difficult to suggest what they could have differently with such a challenging backdrop.

Being of a certain age, I found trying to renew a small mortgage on my dwelling extremely difficult. Nick was very helpful in advising and pointing me in the right direction to achieve this. He spoke with me at length and advised me on the several occasions when I called him. His help was invaluable.

What could they have done better?
I received first class service from all staff including the receptionists. Nick always kept appointments and gave much of his busy time to help me.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
I was still in full time employment when I first decided to seek advice, but I was both worried and unsure about my financial future if and when I retired.
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
Initially, I was advised by Ken and then Nick took over a year or two later. Both of them have listened patiently to my situation and concerns, then first of all, reassured me that having a financial advisor was not just for the very wealthy, but for ‘ordinary’ people too who have some savings and a workplace pension. Nick has always borne in mind my nervousness and caution about financial matters beyond everyday situations and he reassures me every time we meet that I have a safe financial future. He and Ken have advised and chosen investments which suit both my financial situation and my attitude towards risk. They looked into my workplace Pension and explained how this would work for me when I retired in a clearer and more personalised way than I had been able to understand from generic literature or from group meetings at work. Nick always explains the year’s progress in as much detail and as many times as I need, in a patient, but not patronising manner.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes, in both financial and personal terms. I am extremely pleased that I have people that I trust to advise and manage my finances. As a result of their advice and explanations, I felt able to drop some of my working hours for a couple of years and then retire earlier than I had expected, safe in the knowledge that I had enough money to do so. Although the company is a business, I know that I can contact them at any time if I have any queries or concerns and Nick will treat me as an individual and he is both kind and good at remembering small details about my life or situation.
What could they have done better?
Nothing much. Perhaps for people like me, who are not proficient at interpreting all of the graphs and charts, having an ‘idiot’s’ paragraph to summarise progress saying nothing to worry about, or there’s more positive than negative, or this is just a short term situation etc to enable me to understand it in a short hand way before Nick is able to explain and reassure at the annual review.

Historic family usage that was impressive.
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
He has helped us to plan our investments for both pension purposes and in particular for paying off our interest-only mortgage. He has also made sure we have the necessary insurances in place.

A few years ago we were a little more optimistic about future market performance but we think we’re still reasonably well place to achieve our objectives.

I sold a property in 2014 and was looking for someone to advise me as to the best way to invest the money realised.

From the very first discussion I found Nick's approach to my questions so informative and constructive. After much patient discussion and clear explanations we decided on an investment strategy which has proved very worthwhile. I spend part of each year in Canada, returning when possible for a stay in UK, so it's wonderful to confidently depend on Nick to keep me updated and deal with any issues.

Yes. Through all sorts of world wide financial problems (particularly, of course, the pandemic) the investments we made in 2014 have held up. I am content and delighted that when I raise any queries Nick responds promptly and efficiently.

After a many years and several careers I had various pension pots that were difficult to track. I also had no idea whether these would be sufficient for my retirement.
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
Nick helped me make sense of my current pensions/investments and put together a plan to bring them together to allow easier tracking. He also advised me on a way forward for my retirement, giving me several options and laying out multiple scenarios for my future.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes indeed, I followed Nick's advice and after a thorough investigation of all the options consolidated my pension pots. This provided a much clearer picture of where we stood financially, and how those finances would support any future retirement. In turn, it also gave me great peace of mind knowing that my partner and I had planned for the coming years. As it happened, I was forced to retire early due to ill health, but as the plan was already in place, with a little adjustment I was able to retire without worry. Thank you Nick and Bray Wealth, without your help this event would not have been possible in such a short space of time.
What could they have done better?
Nothing springs to mind. All our dealings with Nick and Bray Wealth have been good. Without their knowledge and expertise in pensions and investments we could not have coped with the myriad of rules and regulations involved. They are always there whenever we have queries or concerns. Regular reviews ensure everything is on an even keel.

On reaching our mid to late fifties having had several career changes I found that both my wife and I had multiple pension pots in varying states. We decided we would like to take control and consolidate them somehow in order to get better picture of our retirement options. But with so many institutions offering financial advice and services it was difficult to know where to start. A trusted colleague of mine had already been through the same process and highly recommended Nick's services to us.
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
My wife and I met Nick at our home and he reviewed our current arrangements and carefully explained several options to us. This was a great meeting and helped clear up so many questions and concerns that surrounded current pension law/rules etc. Nick gave a full future forecast over multiple scenarios both good and bad. This showed that I could even retire far earlier than expected, while keeping the same standard of living. After having had some time to consider this our other options, Nick then stepped in and helped consolidate our main assets while keeping some others protected due to their advantageous investment contracts. We barely had to lift a finger.

Yes, three years on I now have an excellent financial retirement plan that is reviewed in full with Nick at least once a year. This has given me the clarity and confidence to semi-retire at 59 with an option to fully retire at any point in the future. As a result my wife and I have peace of mind and have been able to plan our time in retirement including those all important holidays and major purchases. Thank you Nick. Nick is a great communicator and support to anyone developing a long term financial plan. My wife and I became aware at least 10 years ago that as we moved through the middle period of our working lives we needed to get some financial planning help us make good decisions - mortgages, savings, school fees, pensions all needed to be looked at and plans developed.

Nick worked with us over a few years to firstly build a sound relationship - financial discussions are for some families quite sensitive so it takes sometime to be comfortable with an adviser, we are certainly like that. After that we then moved onto to adopting some of the changes Nick suggested.

Yes we have, we are much clearer on where we stand and what we need to do in the future.
What could they have done better?
Good question, overall we are pretty happy with our relationship with Nick and the team at Bray. Their approach is very much -no pressure, so you need to be aware of that if you choose them as a long term partner and advisor. Some folks might prefer a more robust approach and follow up but Brays open style works well for us.

I had sold a house and wanted to invest the quite substantial amount of money. As a complete novice to the investing world I needed guidance.

I have been with Bray Wealth Management since 2015, first with Ken Bray and then with Nick Swartout. Prior to this I had been supporting my father in his relationship with Bray, and had been impressed with the advice he received, the relaxed atmosphere of his meetings, and the returns he was making. It was during one of my father's meetings that I asked for advice from Ken Bray, as I felt at the time my pension & ISA were underperforming. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
My previous Financial Adviser was retiring due to ill health and Nick was recommended to me by a family member
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
For some years Nick has been looking after my wife and I, helping us to plan for our retirement. This has enabled us to be in a position where we can both retire sooner than we had expected. We had some investments and pensions prior to his involvement. He has advised us on which ones we should keep and which could achieve better results by moving them. He also gave very helpful advise when I recently set up a new company.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Nick has put us in a much better financial position than we thought was possible.
What could they have done better?
Nothing. If we have any concerns Nick is always there to allay them.

We just needed advice on our investments as well as discussions on pensions and retirement possibilities/plans as well as inheritance/tax planning
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
He and his team have helped to assess our levels of risk , what was best route for our investments,the type of funds.They have also helped us with ongoing assessments and advice.He was also very helpful with the inheritance planning which has helped us to benefit financially on a subject we knew little about.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
The results have been more than we were hoping for or thought we could expect, to be honest!
What could they have done better?
We don’t think they could have done anything better, we are very pleased with the overall service from Nick and his team.

Initially, ie many years ago, long term financial advice. Specifically more recently, my early retirement and financial well being surrounding that change in circumstance.
How has Nick Swartout helped you?
Nick gave me full support and encouragement during a time of considerable change in my life. He showed understanding and patience, making it easy to interpret my financial situation. It was a calming presence during a stressful time, that left me able to concentrate on making the right decision for my well being. I was secure in the knowledge that advice for my future had in the past been sound and that following advice from Nick and team in the future could be trusted.
