I had two specific circumstances - switching out of a company pension and organising the funding and admin for the full purchase of my company from my business partner.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Rethink of future retirement plans due to Covid-19 pandemic and the lack of flexibility provided by my employer final salary pension if I wished to retire early.

How has Ashton Eddolls helped you?

By, with assistance from a third party specialist, demonstrating that by tranferring my existing pension it could be managed and invested in a way that would allow me to retire early with a good level of income that is flexible and calculated to meet my financial needs now and in the future.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

It is early days and the world is going through and uncertain time but so far so good. My portfolio has started to grow a little and I have already realised some benefits from transferring my pension. I can now retire 4 years early with confidence.

What could they have done better?

I think, as with many financial experts/specialists, they know their subject so well that there is a tendancy to assume that clients understand terminologies, how things work and and how financial calculations work more than clients want to admit. If like me, you don't have a maths degree and are not highly educated in finacial matters, it can be very difficult to be clear on some points meanings and, as a result, there are occaisionally small things that don't quite work out as expected, so we have to go back for clarification. This is easily remedied by advisors being able to simplify explanations to a level that is clear to clients. Ashton Eddols has done this quite well to date but can do better.

Yes. Despite worst market in over a quarter of a century our retirement pot has not only been protected but has seen gains above other providers

Delivered on every timescale commitment. Has had to hold his hand up occasionally, where due to demands of overseeing a rapidly growing business, he has had to prioritise other matters above ours and consequently some target completion dates were missed.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Being over 55 with a mixed bag of personal pensions it was time to get better control and plan with professional advice for retirement in the not to distant future. One pension was with-profits that had matured and needed a review to improve returns and lower costs. Partial consolidation was one consideration. Drawdown was the likely future strategy. My calculations needed an independent professional check - was I on track or not? It was time to invest money in an advisor.

How has Ashton Eddolls helped you?

An initial review call gave me the confidence to progress to a full, unhurried face-to-face meeting where I laid out my situation. Ashton is the epitome of a calm collected good listener with plenty of well placed questions and observations to drive the conversation towards my goals. He makes you feel at ease and is open about his business, his approach and relevant fee structure. I always felt informed. Agreeing a way forward with clear charges Ashton took plenty of information and went away to research my pensions and associated funds. Interim updates led to a review meeting where detailed reports and charts compared my position to relevant benchmarks. By now COVID19 was rearing its ugly head and this had implications for MVR for the with-profits. Ashton laid out his recommendations and we mutually agreed prompt changes, again with fees and future costs clearly laid-out. Improvements were in sight with guidance on how future funds selections would be managed.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

All changes were executed with minimal fuss and with relevant notifications and checks on progress. All went smoothly even with COVID19 taking hold. The new pension platform has worked well and is so much more transparent and feature rich offering flexibility I'd not previously considered possible. This became highly relevant with COVID19 starting to disrupt markets, Ashton advising a temporary low-risk position that was easily enabled. I am now in a better go forward position ready for the roller-coaster of the next few years and feeling happy that a decent retirement income will be there. Ashton publishes a newsletter and occasional advisories to his client base that provides a regular cadence of contact.

What could they have done better?

A lot of information was exchanged, a few mistakes crept in that were quickly addressed once highlighted. A bit more double checking would not go amiss - we live in a world of data!

Over a period of around seven years now, Ashton Eddolls had been a proactive, highly knowledgeable, discrete, and trustworthy source of sound financial advice for me as it relates to my pension fund.
