I wanted to invest in a managed portfolio and it to provide an income as well.

Mostly, yes. I'm aware that investing is for the mid to long term, so my expectations align with that process, however I'm not seeing the returns yet I hoped for regarding my SIPP.

What could they have done better?

I think they have done as well as can be expected, given no-one can predict exactly what is going to happen at any given time to global markets etc. If it were possible to re-invest quicker when markets change this would of course be desirable but again this has to be countered with what is a short term shock to the markets and what is a longer trend.
