Having worked in international sales roles for most of my career, I had always been a keen reader of Money Week and realised that the Financial Services industry was the ideal environment for me to make the best use of my financial knowledge and life experiences combined with great problem solving skills and keen interest in helping people. My goal is to help people to learn about and understand their financial options, get motivated and discover the best means to achieve their goals! Through my financial coaching, I sincerely hope to improve not only my client’s finances but also, their well-being through understanding and managing their finances better as I see this as being an essential life skill which is often overlooked. I am particularly interested in helping people to maximize the potential of, and understand how pensions work, investigate pensions they have from previous companies. I would like to help to eliminate the gap between the value of pensions that men and women retire with. Education about how to plan for their first property purchase is another important area for many of my clients, as well as the importance of investing where appropriate. With Octopus Money, I provide a holistic service which can cover making life choices as well as financial coaching and goal setting. In my eyes, a great Financial Coach should be a good listener, empathetic, enthusiastic about their client’s goals, non-judgmental with technical financial knowledge and the ability to explain things in simple, jargon free language. In my spare time, my family and I love to be outside somewhere wild; hiking, camping, wild swimming, and I am mad about yoga, landscape photography, learning Japanese and finding the perfect plot to build an eco-house. Ultimately, I would like to plant a wood of native trees for future generations to enjoy and spend January, February and March somewhere warm. Helen Rutherford
