I wanted to do some DIY projects on my house and also my car is getting old and I needed money to be able to buy a replacement car. I wasn't able to afford all of this with my current funds so I contacted Darren with a view to releasing some equity from my house.

We wanted to use the pension funds accrued by my husband (which had reached maturity) in order to go towards paying off the remainder of our mortgage. Due to personal medical reasons, we need this to be actioned ASAP

We advised Darren of our personal and financial situation and had already decided for ourselves that Equity release would be our best option based on our situation. Darren explained the different types of Equity release (which is confusing)! He guided us through our preferred choice and began the process for us. He communicated with our pension provider which in turn led him to make contact with a specialist independent financial advisor in order to complete our request for Equity release based on our circumstances. It was extremely confusing for us to become familiar with the different agencies, experts etc involved in the process but Darren ensured that everything was done without giving us too much stress as we already have enough personal issues to contend with. He made regular contact and not once pressured us into signing or agreeing to anything that we were unsure of, or didn’t understand. Apart from a glitch with one of the pension companies, everything went smoothly without too much input from ourselves. We are extremely grateful for his knowledge, guidance and support throughout this process. He ensured that what we initially saw as a minefield of information for us to process was explained and actioned by himself with our consent at all times throughout the process leading to completion.

No kids, moved into a house that's worth a lot and don't want to leave it to strangers or the government, so we want as much money from it before we die so that we can spend it on doing silly things and getting totally and utterly 'tired and emotional' as often as we want; in short, it's a lifestyle thing.

By arranging the above, and doing so with patience, tenacity, skill, great communication skills, a deep knowledge of his work, and a crystal clear approach to the task in hand.

What could they have done better?

Not much to say except perhaps it could have been useful for some relevant case studies to be shown to us that parallel our situation and needs, of which there must be many (presumably - ?), but of course with no attached personal details about the people concerned. I know people are different, so are their finances and all sorts of other factors but, like most people entering into Equity Release schemes we hadn't done this before and so this might have been another useful things for our thought processes in making a decision. If anyone reading this thinks this is a good idea then perhaps ask people like us who go in for Equity Release to give the appropriate permission if it helps others in the future. Food for thought.

Personal service from the start. .Everything was explained clearly and all my questions were answered. I was shown a range of mortgages and Mr Spragg was able to advise on the best option to apply for. Mr Spragg helped throughout my home purchase and promptly provided further details to my solicitor and mortgage lender when required. Once the home purchase was ready for completion, Mr Spragg arranged life insurance policies and provided expert advice in this area.

My circumstances had changed so I needed some additional Life Assurance

How has Darren Spragg helped you?

He looked at what I'd got in place already and all of my financial and family commitments and prepared a report that detailed where I needed cover. He took into account what I already had and then tailored a plan to suit my financial situation.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Absolutley...I now feel that with my life cover and the critical illness that was added, I am fully covered and my family would be looked after should I die or become ill.

What could they have done better?

I honestly don't think he could have done anything more...he asked me for a budget to work to and all of my needs were met within that budget. He even suggested other products that I may need but I decided to not take those just because of my budget and I thought other areas were more important to me. He was very thorough in his report and with his advice and happily accepted that I could not do all that he had said. He was very relaxed, informative and professional. Some advisors I've used can be pushy and insistent, Darren was the complete opposite...he'd told me what I needed to do, I simply chose what suited me currently.
