She was excellent. Easy to talk to and dealt with a very difficult matter as my ex husband is an extremely abusive person. I was distressed at the beginning of the process but because of Julia's kindness and knowledge we were able to resolve matters.

The subject of Power of Attorney was discussed fully but sensitively as the donor had only recently been diagnosed with early stage dementia. The solicitor explained the process and the benefits of early arrangement of both a Health and Welfare and a Financial Power of Attorney, and answered all our questions clearly. Sadly the Powers of Attorney have had to be exercised much earlier than hoped, but is has at least meant that we have been able to start our mothers next stage of care without the additional problems we would have suffered without having them in place.

This solicitor was always good at giving me time to think through and express my wishes whilst at the same time guiding me through all the decisions that had to be made from her experience and knowledge of the law. She explained all the processes clearly so that a plan was laid out at the end of each meeting with her. She was also very good and prompt at responding to email communicatin. Altogether a much easier and less painful experience than I had anticipated before contacting her.

How has Julia Gibbons helped you?

After fleeing my home with my children and leaving a violent relationship, I needed a solicitor to help me apply for a restraining order as well as to help with preventing continued post separated domestic violence. My ex partner had forced me to sign an agreement to share the parenting of the children. Julia Gibbons is competent and professional and has always been there to support me. I have been through the courts on numerous occasions over the last two years and had to fight for my children to be listened to and to challenge the traditional way the law ignores domestic violence and devalues women who are victims of it. Julia helped me and the children to secure some safety and to get back into my home with an occupation order 1.5 years after I fled my home. She has helped me navigate through the courts, understand CAFCASS, liaise with the police and ask the right questions. When I have felt down and depressed, Julia has always been there to support me and helped me to keep going. I can't thank Julia enough for always being there and for helping me in my most dire hour of need. I would recommend Julia to any other woman who is recovering from the emotional turmoil of domestic violence and abuse. Julia is a strong woman and will have the stamina to keep going at those times when you are tired, weary and despondent. When you are dealing with financial issues as well as children issues, with a difficult and violent ex partner I would recommend that Julia deals with all issues. It is the only way to try to secure a way forward to end the various levels of control that a violent ex partner can have. I am nearly out of the other side, but it has been a really difficult and painful journey, even more difficult than living with domestic violence!

What could they have done better?

There is nothing my solicitor could have done better because she has been flexible and responsive to me throughout the time she has represented me. Julia has always believed my experience of domestic violence and always listened to me. She has always supported me and never been judgemental. I am extremely grateful for her support as this has helped me gain strength along the way.
