I recently dealt with Paul Davis as I needed advice on probate and inheritance tax laws. I cannot stress how helpful and knowledgeable Paul was. I’ve spoken to several professionals in the last few weeks regarding probate but Paul was by far the most experienced and clear cut with his explanations and advice. He was extremely friendly and I felt very comfortable asking him as many questions as I needed to, to fully understand the process and laws around probate and inheritance tax. I would highly recommend Paul…..thank you again for all your help!

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was looking for an adviser to help me through the mine field of how to ensure my various pension pots enabled me to retire but also allowed me to live to a reasonable standard.

How has Paul Davis helped you?

I communicated with a few people to try and find someone that I was comfortable with. I am still working so having someone call me when it was agreed and speak in "normal language" and not "pension lingo" was critical. Paul was brilliant, he arrived on time and was very patient in explaining all the pension jargon and what it would mean to me.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Paul revisited me, with a very comprehensive report, based on our first meeting. He went through the report and answered all questions I had. The recommendations he proposed, made sense to me so my initial outcome has certainly been achieved. I now understand and have confidence that my upcoming retirement will not be as daunting as first thought. So thou early days the outcome is looking very positive.

What could they have done better?

I cannot really think of anything, as all my questions and worries, at this point have been addressed.

Paul's advice and guidance have proved to be life changing: in the space of a year from when I first contacted him I have been able to retire and relocate to be closer to family as well as establish financial security for the long term. I am sure that I ticked the closest box to mortgage and loans but he does not provide this service. You and he should make sure that enquirers are correctly screened to get them to the right advisor.

Paul was pleasant and not at all pushy, he gave me lot's of advice re my options to access my pension pot. So I was very happy up to that point. It was only when it worked out that I will need certain forms to be filled out by a financial advisor I understood what the fee would be and that was close to £3k . The problem is because Paul does live a fair way from me I wouldn't be able to find out face to face how that fee would be justified and what I would gain from Paul's advice. I spoke to a close friend and he put me in touch with his financial advisor who is coming to see me this Thursday (24/05) so all my options and what fees I will have to pay can all be laid out in front of me. I understand that no one works for nothing and i'm happy with that , I just need to know how I will benefit. I would still recommend Paul , if you live close to him , and judging by his positive reviews you should be in good hands.

It would have been better with a face-to-face meeting but unfortunately due to COVID we (as a firm) are still not meeting clients this way until at least 21st June, to protect us and our clients as much as possible. However, technology does still allow us to have online meetings but this was not an option you wanted to take, which I totally understand and dealing with someone more local to you will be easier for you going forward. Hopefully, the person you are going to meet is an Independent Financial Adviser and also has the FCA permissions to advise on 'safeguarded benefits' such as Guaranteed Annuity Rates because the advice you need must be offered by someone who has this. Paul reviewed my investments some years ago, and advised me to pool them into one pot and look at drawdown as opposed to annuity. This has enabled me to retire at 55 on a relatively limited pension pot, which is something I never expected to be able to achieve. In addition he has been very upfront with me when it comes to advising me on subjects he doesn't specialise in, and recommending advice elsewhere ( In the case of equity release) that has completed my retirement portfolio in a very satisfactory way.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Absolutely. Despite the awful financial year we have just been through I am looking forward a to happy retirement with enough funds to enjoy some good times.

What could they have done better?

I really can not of think of anything.

This review is based on the free 1 hour initial consultation. He clearly identified services he offers. Drawback for me as that the overview is handled by a separate firm of pensions transfer specialists then Paul's firm does the ongoing advice. I want whole thing in one so I will not be following up.

My husband realised that our savings needed to be properly invested.

He came to visit us and gathered all the information necessary to invest our savings in the best way by setting out several plans for my husband and myself to think about and decide on .When we had thought them through he then set the wheels in motion for the route we decided was best for our investments.

We have been clients of Paul since 1998 unfortunately my husband passed away earlier this year so I am now relying on Paul to help with re investing any monies available from his estate . My husband was always the one who checked on the progress of any investments made but when he died I found Pauls name and phone number to be contacted asap to help me with sorting out our savings and to help me with what turned out to be much needed advice and help for which I am very grateful.

What could they have done better?

I must be honest and say I really cannot think of a thing he has done incorrectly he was indeed a life line during a time when I felt I needed someone to turn for advice at an extremely difficult time.

We had pension funds we did not fully understand. We did not understand the tax implications Paul explained all in such a way he cleared away any falsehoods we were interpreting about taxation in retirement.

Paul came to us on time, he put at ease. He explained the differences between final salary and private pension. Paul was very clear in his explanations and explained many elements of holding pensionable sums that were of little value. He removed a lot of our fears for the future. Paul visited in the evening and spent two hours discussing various financial matters. We found him very friendly and easy to get along with. There was definitely no hard sell and Paul explained the secret of his longevity in the business is to ensure he treats every client in the same way, no matter their financial circumstances. We liked that very much. Paul took the time to explain Capital Gains and Pensions to us in some detail, which is what we needed. We felt his advice was unbiased and straightforward and if we didn't understand something he was happy to go over it again.

First of all to consolidate our savings in a way that was appropriate for our situation. We later called on his services regarding further advice regarding investment particularly concerning pension matters.

Although we have only known Paul for around 18 months during this time we have always found him to be not only a very likeable person but one that is very easy to talk to, patient and willing to explain information at a level we can understand. That's very important to us! Once that he understood both our attitudes to risk and the reason why we had consulted him in the first place he was soon able to reassure us and come up with a suitable plan. We would have no hesitation in recommending him to someone in the same situation.

Have received good advice re my current pensions already set up, one of which is being currently paid into, the remainder having no contributions paid into for quite a few years. As I am nearing the pension age set up on my pensions, I needed advice when I first met Paul about possible pension dates, my current financial situation at that time and the possibility of my being able to retire at the age that the pensions had provisionally been set up. Since my initial meeting I have had yearly meetings with Paul who has given me constructive advise.
