After working as a store manager for currys for 35 years , at 55 in may 2021 , I wanted to see the options available to retire early to support my parents care .

I contacted Chris ( on recommendation ) as I had 3 pensions , a small private pension , a defined benefit pension ( the old final salary scheme ) and new pension scheme from legal and general . If i was to stay with the company schemes the salary generated would not be enough so we looked at a drawdown option combining all 3 pensions .

I was coming up to retirement and rather than just accept the DB pension I wanted to review all options open to me.

How has Chris Breward helped you?

Chris first sent out a financial review form and then we had several meetings where he discussed our attitude to risk and our current financial circumstances. After a few weeks Chris and his staff presented a financial review document explaining their proposals and reasons for their advice. They also presented what investment portals we should invest in.

Although it is early days we have seen an increase and by using the on line portal I can log in anytime and check the progress.

What could they have done better?

They didn’t mention whether they had looked at all pension options e.g. transfer to DC or drawdown however I was still happy with the advice.

The outcome of my pension transfer allowed me to retire at 57. It did however coincide with the market crash relating to the COVID outbreak. This saw my pension portfolio drop in value by 22%, but advice from Chris has seen my funds grow over the past 18 months, to increase my portfolio to above the orriginal value prior to COVID. A result I am very happy with.

I do not see how Chris could have done any better, as his advice has resulted in my portfolio growing and allowing me to plan for a posative future.

I had a number of pensions accumulated over the past 40 years or so. I needed to establish what my pension would be if I were to retire early than my state pension date

Chris came to house nice guy but I think he had made his mind up before leaving that he wasn't going to take the job on.

Unfortunately as a professional adviser firm we have to decide whether or not to give full advice based on the information we are provided. Advice is not merely taking orders from someone, its about assessing what is and what is not right for an individual. A Defined Benefit Pension Transfer is one of the most complicated and highly regulated area's of regulated advice. The FCA have said that a transfer is not in the best interests of most people considering doing one, unless they have clear reasons and objectives for doing so. Our decision was based on what was presented to us during the initial discussion and we could not take this enquiry any further.

I went to see Chris regarding taking my money out of my company pension early so I could pay mortgage off early, and he gave me excellent advice etc.

He gave me honest advice, ie to stay in company pension for a few years as it is a really good scheme, but he did understand why I wanted to draw my funds out and look after them myself.

I was looking to take my works pensions early to allow early retirement. I was also looking for secuity for my family if anything was to happen to me. I'm now looking forward to my retirement in the very near future

I retired 5 months ago and I was told of Chris a few months previous to that, I needed to know that my wife and I were going to be financially comfortable for the rest of our retirement especially with the current financial climate.
