What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My wife and I have been client's of Christian since just before my retirement in 2022, which triggered our search for a financial advisor. We were recommended by friends to approach Smith and Wardle and have not looked back. One of my priorities was to find someone who could act as a financial guide for my wife should I not be around (she knows this is important but struggles to engage with the details). I was therefore looking for an adviser whose judgement I trusted and who was able to forge a good relationship with myself and my wife.

Christian has proved to be just what I was looking for. He listens well, is knowledgeable and communicates well. He has provided sound advice and guided us comfortably through the last few years. The tools at his disposal have reassured me that the advice given is based on evidence and not just opinion; of course nothing is certain but modelling and projections help navigate into the future. On the implementation side it has all been very responsive and very efficient.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. We have managed a nice balance in our financial situation between spending and security which suits us. With Christian's hand on the tiller he has steered us safely and it is nice to not have to worry about many of the details. I am very happy with how things have been going and especially so with the relationship that has been built up over the last few years: my wife is very comfortable talking with Christian and he shows an open mind while staying on course.

What could they have done better?

I have no complaints at all. Everything has suited us perfectly.

I sought an adviser to deliver a simple long term plan, at a reasonable price.

My husband had already retired and I took the decision to work past my retirement date. I then made a decision to retire so that both of us could be together. We needed an Advisor to guide us through our pension investments.
